I headed down to Mustang Island this weekend, and am staying at the Sandpiper Condos, which happen to be across 361 from Wilson's Cut. Of course, this was all planned before it rained 10 inches yesterday. Assuming it doesn't rain anymore and the bay clears up by this weekend, what is the best way to fish this place? I plan on doing some wading, but I'm wondering if it's worth working those flats that are northeast of the channel? Those flats look like they could be some fishy spots. Thanks for any tips an advance.

We fished near the JFK causeway right on the NAS channel this past weekend, we caught a ton of trout under lights at night on soft plastics but most were undersized. We also caught 4 keeper reds on live shrimp under a popping cork. Then the rain/wind came and we didn't even bother fishing anymore. The tide was well above 2 feet higher than normal, lots of water out there. Maybe it will be better this weekend.

As you head west down Wilsons Cut, there are flats on the north side. The first flat will hold some fish, but the further ones are grass with potholes. At times these hold redfish and are worth the trek. Fish the potholes.

Be very careful as you wade, the last time I was there there were so many stingrays that I quit fishing.

That's one thing I've noticed about the grass flats is while they hold redfish and flounder, there are also stingrays.

Those flats are perfect for kayak fishing.

If there are stingrays there are reds.
