straight. Balances better and you can often add a brush blade.

Curved touches spots that a straight one can't.

Wait, what are we talking about?

Straight...go with Stihl or Echo.

Straight, Stihl, FS 90 or bigger, so you can use a brush blade if needed.

Depends on your application. Small yard only using on small weeds, curved. Large yard/Pature land where you will be fending off a small forest, straight.

STIHL in either scenario.

I love my Shindawa straight shaft...that thing always cranks right up. Hasn't failed me yet.

Stihl is what I have and it works fine. If I could go back I would get the straight shaft.

Have my grandfathers ~20yr old straight shaft Green Machine. Other than sending it into the small engine shop last year to have all the rotten plastic fuel lines replaced, new gaskets, and the carb cleaned it runs like a total champ. It fires up on the first pull EVERY time!

Some people are more comfortable with a curved shaft. Tall people are never comfortable with a curved shaft. A curved shaft will never go underneath a fenceline but does an awesome job of yard trimming for the money. A straight shaft trimmer does heavier duty work, generally has more horsepower, and weighs more.

The best selling trimmer is in my shop is the FS90R. Part of that is because it's the smallest of the heavy duty trimmers, part of that is because it's bulletproof so I push it quite a bit.

I've got an echo straight shaft in mint condition for $189. Check out the site. If you're in DFW of course.

If you have a weedeater that you have grown accustomed to using, just make sure your new one will have the same roation. I still have not gotten used to using my new Echo. I have to walk backwards to have the same feel I had with my old one.

Straight-majority of the time more commercial, well built, more powerful and gets under branches, bushes, tables much easier (very big deal, trust me)

Curved-great for personal use, not much to weed eat under, lighter weight

echo, steehl, shindaiwa are great brands

Thanks, this is just for use for my home but I'm worried the curved won't be comfortable. Someone told me that an average sized person will not like the curved. I picked one up at Lowe's and it seemed like I would be bending over a lot and I'm only 6'.

Unless someone gives me a good reason to not get straight for home use I think I'm going with that. thanks for the help.

STIHL all the way.

I will be getting a straight shaft next time, though.

My straight shaft Shindaiwa is going on 16 years and has never been to the shop.

Straight, for sure. The only thing a curved shaft can trim that a straight won't is your toes!

And I'm running an Echo, but I like what I hear about the Shindaiwa's.
