I need to buy a buckle to go with the belt that matches my new boot. Nothing overly fancy (the belt is pretty fancy on its own) and definitely not a “dinner plate” style. The belt will be 1” wide at the buckle.

Suggestions as to where to look?

TIA

I got one of those "corps stack" buckles they used to sell back when I was a student. Had it ever since. It's not obnoxiously large. Really huge went out of style sometime about the same time as brushpoppers and Garth Brooks did.

Find a good 3 piece and ditch the end cap.

visit Stephenville and walk around the Tarleton campus. That statement doesn't apply here. Some of the guys walking around would make Captain America jealous for a bigger shield

Is the reasoning the same as I heard when I was way back in highschool?

"Yah, I get into a fight, and they take as shot at my gut and they're gonna break some fingers. Then I can whip off that belt and beat em good."

"What, like a gladiator with a buckler and lash?"

"Whut?"

"Nevermind."

Actually I think they heard the girls like em bigger, and they assumed it meant belt buckles!

this is mine. I love it because of the maroon lacquer in it, that I haven't seen anywhere else.

If someone earns a trophy buckle I see no reason for them not to wear it. Or any reason to make fun of them.

I always liked the Tony Lama State Series buckles - bronze oval w/state seal, big but not dinner plate big and not overly flashy.

I basically have the one that rhoswen posted but without the A&M. Then I threw away the end cap (piece on the far right).

yeah. more than I paid for the belt.

So, looking like my options are tin crap or $500. Lovely.

How about a nice Zuni inlay or Hopi overlay buckle in sterling? Or if you are into big rocks, a Navajo made buckle. Buy from a reputable dealer who knows the name of the maker and you should be able to do well for around $250-%500. Less if you shop around.

Here's one very reputable dealer who provides certificates of authenticity.

If you don't care about specific artists, here is another near San Antonio - their stuff looks pretty good, and reasonable.

BoozerRed,

Jiminiy Christmas! I had one of those in the mid 80's when I worked for the local Lone Star Distributor while going to junior college prior to TAMU. The also had them in Lone Star Light.

I have only three items left from those days. One is a "Cold Beer" lighted sign with the LS and LSL symbols on each side. It is our honorary "flag" at fishcamp in POC. First thing turned on and last turned off. The second is a painted sytrofoam Armadillo with the original LS tag on it. The third and most prized is an origianal Lone Star blue oval. An original, not the reproductions. Largely rust free. I found it in the advertising section of the warehouse with 10 others, buried under a couple of decades of other advertising stuff, wrapped in oiled wax paper. It too in on fishcamp's wall.

Good times and memories.

I posted it on the AO thread also, but I will say it again.

I have a buckle made by a guy from the pan handle named Brad Booze. I think he is pretty reasonable, and does great work. Mine gets alot of comments. Its not by any means flashy, just a nice buckle. I will try to get a picture of it and post it for you to see. Also, I think the Texas prision system will make you one also.

I was given a Holland Ranger set for a wedding gift almost 20 years ago. It's the only buckle I plan to wear for the rest of my life.

Jock 99...

Find you a dealer that sells Clint Orms' buckles. He makes some beautiful buckles. I have one that has the star on it like on the barrel of your boot.

Bought some custom spurs from Easton Bit and Spur. Sent John a picture of a buckle from another maker for him to give me a price and he came in $300 cheaper. Only problem is lead times, he just quoted 90 days out. He does great work and pretty good prices
