I am taking the inlaws fishing this weekend and we will fish the waters (south of Baffin) I am familiar with on Saturday. But we will be staying in the Rockport area so I want to do some fishing around there on Friday and Sunday. We have a boat so that is not an issue. Any suggestions?

What type of fishing are you doing? Artificials, Bait? What type of fish are you targeting? Trout, Reds, Drum? How shallow will your boat run? Draft? How much to get up on plane?

shouldnt do this but if you promise to bring me any fish you catch worth mounting....fish trailer or quarantine shoreline very shallow early and move out to 3-5 ft as the sun gets high. You might try the bay side of mud for trout and the other side up close for Reds. Always give the wells a shot if the water is deep green and I know that inside of Estes has been good for big trout in the potholes. If you can get into sand lakes there are plenty of slot reds. bamdvm - We will be going after specks and reds using shrimp under popping cork and also artificails. We will be in a 20 ft Pathfinder but I have never been on this boat so I don't know any specifics.

duckguide1 - Thanks for the info...We were going to be staying in Aransas Pass but other family is already using the house. If I have spare time I may stop by the office.

duckguide...what is worth mounting to you...personal best is only 26" and I can't afford to mount so you just might get lucky if I catch a hass.

If you need a place to stay my little house is available. Dont use shrimp and popping corks. The trout are on a croaker feed right now and most dont even give the shrimp a look. Reds can be caught on cut bait, crabs or any type of pin perch, croaker etc... Trout are just hammering the croaker right now.

I don't know much about fishing with bait so can't help you there, I would defer to duckguide's advice. I agree with him on locations and would just add that Estes Flats is probably the easiest and safest place to get to if you don't know the water around there. Drift fishing those flats throwing plastics is usually productive for trout and easy/enjoyable for several people fishing out of a 20 ft. boat.

Capt. Brian it was good to meet you on Friday. We didn't do too good this weekend...the wind was brutal. I picked up a 23" red in Estes on Friday and only one trout all day Saturday in Baffin and surrounding areas. Oh well, atleast I was fishing. Might be back in the area another time or two this summer and I will stop by if I get a chance.

I know the wind is just bad. I have a trip tommorow with some little kids in the boat and I think I'm just going to drift the inside of number 1 behind Hog to stay out of it. Its been 10 days now with 20-30 mph wind. If it slows a little the trout fishing will be on. There are huge numbers of trout out there but most of my places are tough to fish with that kind of wind.

Duckguide, I was not aware that you were a guide, I would have hired you for our trip on Thursday of this week. Instead we are using Capt Gordon, you know of him?

Any suggestions on a place to take kids fishing/crabbing along a shoreline? We are staying in Port A.

I'm headed with the family to fish Tuesday-Saturday of this omcing week. We are staying in Rockport/Fulton and will be fishing Copano and Aransas Bays...primarily Copano I'd bet.
