How long do you want to ignore this user?
Have some 1/2 pounders for the weekend. Choice of guns range from .223 to 7mm Mag., with a number of others in between. Question is: has anyone noticed a difference in the boom when shooting a heavier, slightly slower bullet than a smaller, faster shot?

I am pretty sure that there is a link (don't know if it is direct or not) between bullet weight (caliber/grain) and velocity(how much powder burns type as well) and the report that is accompanied by shooting the cartridge.

OnlyForNow, I don't think he is talking about that. I think he was asking if different calibers blow up tannerite better.

i've never used tannerite, but i think explosives are a go/no-go proposition. you either set it off, and it all goes boom at its own inherent energy level, or you don't set it off at all.

I've been wanting to do this for a while, just never get around to ordering the tannerite. Looks like so much fun.

If there is any difference, you wont' notice it. I believe it takes something moving around 1700fps to start the chemical reaction that creates the big boom - whether you are just above that or significantly above that won't make a difference, to any appreciable degree anyway, because the chemical reaction is going to happen at the same velocity (60k fps?).

I've still got a 1 pounder sitting in the garage waiting for an opportune time to detonate. 1/2 pounders are lots of fun - but be warned. They WILL throw debris much further than you think, and you will spend a lot more time picking up the aftermath than you anticipated, which generally turns into a ticked off wife when you get home an hour late and then spend another hour watching the video over and over again with your buddy while laughing like a 5 year old.

I put a 1/2 pounder inside an old aluminum turkey pot that had a bunch of leaks. Pure awesomeness - and the pot had to go a good 50 feet in the air. Destruction was complete.

I've heard of people prarie dog hunting with it, but I've not experienced it personally.

We float it out in one of the larger the non stocked ponds (4-7 acres) and pop it from the shore. Reduces cleanup & when done correctly is pure awsomeness.

My initial question was based on a conversation I had with a client today regarding his experiences with tannerite. He stated that tannerite had a bigger "boom" with struck by a bullet with greater mass. From what I have read, so long as you hit it with sufficient velocity it will be a good show. I intend to test his theory this weekend & will report back on my findings.

that stuff is so much fun. But as mentioned before, be careful because it is much more powerful than you might think. The first time I did it, was with a buddy and we blew up a gallon of lime green paint. We thought we were plenty far away, but learned our lesson as we franticly wiped down the truck which had paint tossed all over it.
