Some friends and I are going to take the boat out to Texoma on Memorial day weekend. We are considering camping out there.

Has anyone ever done camped on Texoma? If so what are the better spots? Can you camp for free on some of the islands?

Thanks and gig 'em!

I've normally stayed at Eisenhower State Park. Not sure what the regulations are about the islands. If you're going fishing be sure to clearly stay on the Texas side of the Red River channel, or better yet get a Texoma fishing license.

I camped on the islands about 7-8 years ago. It was great. We were the only ones on "our" island. Didn't need anything extra but a boat to get there. Of course we did it at Labor day so the water was down which made for nice exposed sand to set up on. If the water is "full table" or higher, there may not be any clear spots to set up on the islands.

We have camped on the islands many times. Obviously the water level is the determining factor on spots on the islands, and I am sorry but I dont recall what the level was when we were there.

We left out of Mill Creek and made the roughly 1.5 mile jump over to Wood Island. We had the place to ourselves, caught the hell out of catfish on blood bait, and ate like kings.

Water is pretty high right now due to the rain up north.

Don't know what the level will be at by next weekend though. And it's definitely not even close to as high as it got a couple years ago.

You can camp on the islands for free and there are parks all over the lake.

I've camped at Big Mineral and Cedar Mills. Cedar Mills doesn't have tent camping per se, more so travel trailer and RV camping. Haven't ever camped on the islands though. I'm sure both of these will be packed for the holiday weekend.
