How long do you want to ignore this user?
Anyone ever try fishing there? I wanted to go backpacking/fishing and thought it was a close place, but didn't even know if it was worth trying fishing there. If not, any nice places to backpack and fish at around the San Antonio area? I am willing to drive a while if it's really worth it.

I've gone backpacking/fishing there before. Its a great place. I had good luck on bass and my dad went another time and caught quite a few of those trout they let loose in there. It is worth the trip in my opinion even if you dont catch a thing.

Thanks, I have backpacked there before, nice but kind of short. Just never knew if it was worth to try fishing. Where were you fishing? Was it at the camp c(looking at the map) with the cliff on one side of the ponds and the mountain to climb up behind you that goes along the back?

In that little hole are some good fish. Also, the Sabinal itself. Keep in mind the park is a "sanctuary" for pure-strain guadalupe bass, more or less.

It was in and around that area. I walked the creek and found some different spots that were off the trails (I always go off the beaten path) where I had some luck. Did well with white shysters (aka rooster tails, roadrunners), and yellow, topwater, weedless, frogs along the moss in the widest parts of the creek where the water was running slow. I would tell you the exact spots Im talking about but its been a good 3 years and I honestly cant remember. My advice is just to walk the creek till you find some spots that look promising (with moss). Work your way up and down the creek and Im sure you will get a hit eventually.

I thought the Nueces was the only place in texas with guaranteed 100% pure guads now...

and funny, because those were transplants...

Also the South Llano has a good population of pure(ish) guads.

Lost Maples is not as good of a fishing park as Garner or Pedernales falls though...
