As could be used in making receiver accessories?

I want to make a reciever extender and a load carrying bracket, but finding the raw material in small quantity isn't easy.

Mouth, didn't you move to Seguin? If so, CMC metals on N Austin St. (by the railroad tracks).

I use these guys in Ft Worth for price checks all the time:

Nope. I'm still in Spring. I had found a website of a place in houston a LONG time ago that sells this kinda stuff, but can't find it again.

Went to a steel supply place 2 weeks ago that's open to the public, sells any quantity you want, and is open on weekends. It's just off 290 at 14130 West Road.

If you are doing stuff for a reciever hitch, you need to make sure you get heavy wall tubing.

Standard wall will not hold up to anywhere near the load that heavy wall will.

Check out Triple S. I think they are off Hardy Toll Rd and Crosstimbers.

Good luck!

If you were in the San Antonio area...River City Steel or Ashley Salvage.

FWIW, I've got a BAD bug to buy a little MIG rig, so I can weld some aluminum. Not sure the wife will go with that since I already own a little core flux wire feed job that works fine on steel.

Steel Supply, Striple-S and the like aren't going to sell anything but 20 anf 40-ft pieces.

Let me know how thick you want and I can see if I have any drop around. I'll even cut it into individual pieces for you.

Wow! Cool. I'm trying to build one of those bed extenders for carrying long stuff in a truck bed. I know I can buy one for $100 or so, but I'd rather make my own just because. Probably about 8-10 feet total would do it, a 4 foot piece and 2 shorter pieces, maybe 2-3 feet.

I always keep my eye out for scrap steel that I can put to use, but so do many other people, apparently.

The other day some fool was at the county maintenance center here throwing away junk in their big trash dumpster, and he started tossing steel plate weights. LOTS of them. I really wanted to go dumpster diving for them, but the employees wouldn't have let me.

For the receiver you want 2 1/2"x2 1/2"x3/16" square tubing. A 2" square tube will be tight. I just bought this tubing from Steel Supply a couple of weeks ago. If you go in the back they have left over pieces you can buy. They sell scrap pieces at 35 cents a pound.

Mouth, Steel Supply had 4', 6' and 8' sections of 2" square tubing out back. I bought some 3/16" and 16 gauge. They even had a couple of 2' sections on a shelf. If they don't have any in the cut section then they will cut you some from a 20' but you will pay for it.

Oh. Well, I suppose I should have actually measured a receiver block. I guess they are 2.5"x2.5".

Yes, they are 2 1/2"x3/16" square tubing. 2" just fits inside.

Mouth,

I've got both steel and aluminum. If you get the itch to head to High Island or Bolivar fishing, you could stop in and get some.

I like Mack bolt and steel in Bryan as they will sell pretty much any length you want, probably have a higher price for this service but I like them.

You aren't going to weld alum unless you have a mig spoolgun or tig.
