My friend took this picture from their back yard in Flower Mound, TX on Thursday. They live in the Reserves by Bridlewood Golf Course.

Awesome.

You know of all the hundreds of times I've seen bobcats, I think I could count on one hand the number of times I've seen them in a tree. Hmmmm... never thought of that before.

The lower one looks more like a lynx than a bobcat, which would exclude texas.

I have seen a single one quite often behind our home in Flower Mound. I've never seen two....good picture.

I have seen roadkill ones in FM before. That area where they built Bridlewood used to have deer 15 some odd years ago.

You may not see them, but they see you

I believe it and I see deer all the time south of 1171 across from Bridlewood, so they are probably in Bridlewood, too.

I occasionally see deer across from FM high school in a tiny patch of woods.

I think you would be surprised about where bobcats and deer actually are.

I think m&w ags is full of crap. I think he got this photo from nationalgeographic.com.

If my memory serves me correct, there used to be a deer crossing sign on 1171 somewhere between Bridlewood and Circle R ranch.

My office used to be in Addison not far from the airport, south of George Bush, and my boss used to see a bobcat there from time to time. I'm sure those things are all over the metroplex with all the green belts and creeks running through everywhere.

They are all over the DFW area, for the exact reason you mentioned. One of the bigger bobcats I know of lives near 635 and Hillcrest, and gets spotted maybe 3 times a year. I've had meetings with several cities in that area recently related to bobcats (It's amazing how afraid some folks in The Colony/Grapevine/Arlington/Mesquite/Allen/Plano/Burleson/Sachse/etc. are of bobcats).

There are a lot of bobcats out towards the Chimney Rock. Some folks back in there need to quit feeding deer.

lol, leave the deer feeding to the people who are going to kill them soon

LOL, true. Just tends to cause problems down the road for the subdivision.

Funny thing about Addison. About two months ago, they had an issue with mallard ducks at one of the ponds. It wasn't the standard "there are too many", "they get in my pool and die", or "Oh my God, my cat just killed a duck. Oh no, the fine citizens were freaked out by the aggressive sexual behavior of the male mallards. It was a lot of fun explaining in a public meeting, with lots of kids present) that nearly all strange (lack of better word) sexual behaviour found in people can be found in mallards. Look up their breeding behavior and the first thing you find is references to "rape flight" (what set off the issue). No handy females around, fine, they will choose a young/sacrificial male and go to town.---IE, I don't care for Addison

Obviously not in Flower Mound but I live in Summerwood on the Upper East Side(tm ) of Houston and we've got all kinds of wildlife around here.

There has been a significant issue with hogs tearing up people's landscaping, I've seen a lot of deer in the undeveloped parts right next door to my house, we frequently hear & see coyotes, and though I've never seen it I have come across several tracks that I'm pretty sure are bobcat. They definitely aren't canine and if it's a house cat it's a world record because the prints are almost as big as the palm of my hand and I'm 6'3" with big hands.

I lived in Lewisville from 2000-2006 (near Creekside Elementary off Edmonds Drive) and frequently saw bobcats running up and down the creek that goes through that area. One even sat on top of my neighbor's shed stalking the birds at their backyard feeder. Coyotes ran that same creek. They're definitely around. No doubt about it.

I also heard reports of a mountain lion around Grapevine Lake (I fished there a lot), but to my knowledge that was never confirmed.
ursusguy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Hoss, I can pretty well tell you they weren't confirmed.

In fact that is where my story of the Colorado bowhunter mistaking his neighbors yellow lab for a mountain lion took place. Earlier this year, there was a supposed sighting on the a golf course associated with a certain football team, no such luck.

Ok, I'll flat out say it. Around DFW there is decent chance a legit mountain lion is in the Benbrook Lake area. There may be one in the NW Tarrant, NE Parker county area. NONE of the Collin, Dallas, Kaufman, Ellis in the last five years have been confirmed. Most have been bobcats and dogs, with a few foxes mixed in.
Hoss

I remember that story. It still cracks me up that the dude could mistake a lab for a mountain lion.

Speaking of Ellis county, that's where I grew up. My grandfather worked as a lineman for Texas Power & Light in various parts of Ellis County for 40 years and said he'd seen mountain lions on multiple occasions in his areas over the years. Granted, he retired 25 years ago so that could have been as long as 65 years ago.

There are a couple areas in western Ellis that if you told me there was a mountain lion, I might be easily convinced. Granted, it would be nice if one of these would leave of physical evidence.

Sorry if I am a bit jaded on the matter. I used to love mountain lion investigations, now they annoy the tar out of me. I am up to 10+ for the year now. I just did one earlier this week. Lady swore here goats (mini goats) were getting attacked by a mountain lion. The lady also runs a dog rescue on the property with all sorts of neat breed combinations. Of course there were tracks, all canine. Then she decided it was a coyote, hmmmm. Yes, I did find coyote tracks, but not remotely near the kill site. Low and behold, I noticed blood on the whiskers of a dog she had taken in during the last week. Aussie/pit mix, sweet dog to me, but not really a mountain lion.

mini goats and pit bulls, yeah, gotta be a mountain lion

The Corps of Engineer property around Lake Grapevine is pretty good habitat. We moved to Flower Mound in 1992. There has been a lot of development along Wichita Trail since that time.
I still see deer, foxes, bobcats and lots of coyotes at my house. The local large male bobcat....I forget his name... is no stranger to anyone. He will just sit in a backyard like a house cat....which I take it...they like. He sleeps on a park bench in the corps area. I've never seen the cougar but I'm looking for urusguy.
The most alarming thing for neighbors are the coyotes. They start yelping a little after dark....6 to 7 of them and then move thru our subdivision for their nightly hunts. Most have learn it's best to get the yappers in before dark.
ursusguy

Sunchaser, I keep hoping for the day that one around there turns out to be an actual lion. Grapevine Lake is an area I tend to take a bit more seriously since there is a decent deer population around there.
sunchaser
How long do you want to ignore this user?
ursusguy....we have a subdivision website. There have been several people claim that they have seen a mountain lion....all of these people know the bobcat by name. I walk every morning on a portion of the 11 mile bike trail.....it is mostly sand....great sand after a rain. I see lots of tracks but I've never seen anything that I thought was a big cat.

I drove in from Austin late this morning....turned east on 1171 and believe it or not I saw a dead bobcat on the side of the road between Tour 18 & Bridlewood.

Here you go....

I guess I should rephrase what I meant. We see bobcats all the time out here, we have one that's always around #12. Coyotes are all over the place too. I have yet to see them in broad daylight though. Let alone two at the same time. I know they're out here. I grew up in Flo Mo so i know deer, bobcats were prevelant back before bridlewood was built.

I've seen Bobcats out the back office window near Campbell and Glenville in Richardson several times....pretty cool critters.

Very intersting. I live in Highland Village and actually had my wedding reception at Bridlewood. Our house is backed up to the tracks, and we have a bit of a greenbelt behind us and on the other side of the tracks. I've heard roomers of quite a bit of wildlife (coyotes, bobcats, etc.) in that area, but I haven't seen anything.

My friend took these back in early August in her neighborhood in north Plano, just south of 121. There was apparently a large male too. That's mama with the kittens. Apparently the whole neighborhood was freaking out thinking they were going to attack everybody, but I told my friend to keep her dog inside (yip-yap rat sized) and they would leave her alone.
