I hunted with a guy last weekend that had a 16 gauge and a 20 gauge SxS CZ Huglu shotguns.

Now I've never fired any CZ product outside of a buddy's .45 ACP, but these seemed to be exceptionally well put together firearms. I was really surprised by the quality of fit and finish. The recievers were color case hardened, chrome lined and polished bores, and the exterior was a black chrome that looked amazingly smooth and even. They were well balanced firearms, with the only knock that I could find about them was that the wood seemed only half finished (it was a dull finish instead of a nice polished finish that really could have made the shotgun stand out).

Anybody an owner of this particular line that can give me more insight on them? I'm thinking I'd like to have a nice set of doubles one of these days in all guages/bores, and at just under $1k each, these seem like a pretty good price tag for a well made and good looking firearm.

I talked Sean into buying one a year or so ago. DeHaan was the place to get them for awhile but that relationship ended.....they still might have a few. I haven't looked at their website in awhile.

The guns come out of different doors in their facility. They are made by different levels of employees. The ones scheduled for America/Europe are tarketing higher end markets and therefore a better product.
Likewise you can stumble on to the other end of the spectrum.

DeHaan still sells Huglu shotguns, but they only sell the "custom" shotguns.

Huglu (and most of the Turkish gunmakers) will make virtually any gun requested of them. In other words if a company comes to them and says, "We want a 12 gauge shotgun and we're willing to pay $11" then they'll make an $11 P.O.S. However, if a company (DeHaan) comes to them and says we want really top of the line stuff and we're willing to pay up to $10K per gun, they'll make one of the best looking/functioning guns you'll ever see.

That's why you see such a wide variance in opinions on the Turkish guns. Because all of their guns are being rebranded they're not overly concerned about "damaging the brand", so to speak, by putting out an inferior product.

The CZ line of Huglu are really nice, mid-range, mid-priced guns. Not the fanciest ever (although the Woodcock Deluxe is a nice gun) but good quality, well put together.

I own one and would not hesitate to buy another. Further, CZ's affiliation with Huglu goes back a decade or so, so they have a good working relationship.

Sean....DeHaan is now carrying what he calls the SGR custom deluxe. From memory it is close to what they were carrying earlier but it looks like they have more than doubled in price. Is that about right? If so......when can I expect a rebate?

Sun, as I understand it they're doing customs only now so you have to call, place an order, discuss the exact wood, engraving, trigger sets, length, etc. then wait 6 months for them to make what you order.

I ended up with a CZ, not a DeHaan so don't be getting too uppity.

(I would have bought a DeHaan, but at the time I was buying they were making this transition from inventory to custom build and were all out of the guns that I wanted.)

I have a CZ O/U. I went to Cabelas last week and they were selling Huglu branded guns on their rack, all I know is the same gun I bought was $300 more for the Huglu v. CZ.

Not in cash at least. Maybe in guano.
