How long do you want to ignore this user?
Looking for a Deer Lease. Dad called me last night asked me if I had heard of anything out towards me (He's in Houston, I live in San Angelo). I told him we had lots of rain this year, so hunting should be better than average (and average is pretty good in these parts).

Anyways, we are looking for a lease, or a spot on a lease. At least spots for two people, could have as many as 5 hunters. Looking for anything.

I have a very reliable and productive day lease connection if you're interested. He has exotics (big axis) or whitetails from meat hauls to trophies. Email's in my profile.

tx4g.... What is your lead getting on Axis and blackbuck now, and is this in Ozona?

I am thinking the Axis should be cheap now.

SAAg.....If it gets really late or close to the season and you have nothing, come back here and post that as I may be able to help you at that point.

The guy I used to day lease from has several places towards Carlsbad, north of San Angelo. He's also a top-notch taxidermist. He has some gold class axis for $1250, I believe. I'm not sure what his trophy whitetails run, but his day leases were $150 per day with a 2 day minimum. Non-spike/cull bucks on those places were $250 extra. You could tag out for $300 if you saw that many shoot-able meat-haul deer, but I usually came home with 2-3, and only shot 5 one year. Too much cleaning.

He is a Taxi, huh....Is it Fontenot at Safari? He normally does my stuff...Jimmy usually uses Lange's places out in Irion Co.(Lange is an Ag as well), so I am not sure who it is, no matter.

However, I wonder what kind of package I could put together with him on an above average Axis with shoulder mount included?

Could you find out?

Thanks, _89

What do you consider lots of rain?

Thanks for all of the replies.

Looks like most suggestions are day hunts. Day hunts will probably be more like a last resort. My dad and I would like our own place we could put a little sweat into, and also go whenever we like, possibly returning for a few years.

GTechAg, Yearly Avg. for San Angelo is 20.45 in of rain. Average rainfall each month would put us at 13.25 in at the end of Aug. Currently, we have receieved 15.73 in of rain. Not a year for the record books, but out here, anything rain you aren't expecting is a blessing.

And yes, I did look up all those numbers this morning.

89,

Email me, and I'll put you in touch with him. He's not the ones you mentioned. His shop is behind his house out near Carlsbad. He's affordable, and he does super work. He'll have mounts at the shop you can see as examples, so you can window shop before you drop the cash.

Nevermind.. on second look my meat haul lease is all a scam.

I know of a place that might be available in western Fisher County, about 2 hours north of you. about 1k acres, somewhere in the neighborhood of 10/ac. I can see if it is available if you're interested.

Look in the thrifty nickle or american classifieds. They don't post very much online so you have to look in the little newspaper. The Livestock Weekly has them sometimes also. You might hit the bulletin boards at Double K on Mertzon Hwy or Angelo Pellets or just ask the salespeople there. They sell tons of corn and mineral to these ranchers. There should be some opportunities back toward Mertzon or Big Lake. The oil companies are not snapping up everything this year. Hope that helps.
