What do you need to do in order to shoot slugs and/or buckshot? i have the major 3 chokes for my shotgun, just dont know what is protocol when wanting to shoot something other than birdshot and not screw anything up.

any help is greatly appreciated.

IC only for slugs. You should be able to use any of them for the buckshot. As for what slugs to use - use the low velocity "rifled" slugs. Unless you have a rifled barrel or rifled choke tube, the sabot slugs are a waste of money, and the low velocity (under 1600fps) slugs are more accurate out to 100 yards. The cheap Remington 1oz slugs are the best in my 11-87.

Solid advice!

I've wondered this myself.

If the choke is of the changeable variety, the IC is your best bet...

if you have a setup like me (Fixed chokes on a SxS...full & mod) the slug will go through either, but one of them has one HELL of a kick.

I'll never put a slug through my 870 Express (my only shotgun with a threaded choke)

Preference: The 1oz Remington "Slugger"

As for buckshot... let 'er fly... your choke will just determine your pattern. it's a lot like birdshot...only with fewer projectiles.

I would guess they BOTH have a hell of a kick.

I fired both slugs at once...once...

The kick from a slug, and the worn out action on the old Sears Roebuck & Co. shotgun usually ends up in only one pin hitting...

I have a video of me firing both sides of 000 Buck once... looks like my shoulder separates from my body for a second, and the bruise later that day was aparently a finger magnet.
