Holy ****....reclaim is pricey. Remedy may have to suffice for leaf application on mesquite and huisache.

How do you tell huisache and mesquite apart?

huisache is the one that didn't die

Remedy works well as a basal (bark) application, using less that way per bush/tree.
Add a little dye (or use red diesel) to ensure where the spray is going...
About a 24-36" band on the trunk has always resulted in permanent death.

For 100% or as close as you are going to get, cut the stem 8-12" above the ground and then immediately spray with diesel remedy mix on the cut end of the stump. Soak it pretty good and you will have success. A saw blade for your weed whacker works really good for this. One of the big problems with spraying is if it has ever been cut or mowed the root system will be the size of what the original bush would be if it had not been cut. Most of time very small bush on top, very LARGE root system below..We are clawing back 10-15 acres a year like this...

If you're using Remedy and Reclaim cocktail, then it's a foliar spray.

It's expensive per gallon, but it's diluted to 2% or so.

as a foliar spray, use a 1/2% Reclaim + 1/2% Remedy.

If basal use 25% Remedy to 75% diesel, spray basal all around trunk from ground to 18" high.
Or cut stump spray entire stump and sides.

do not spray any diesel mix on leaves as this will defoliate it and cause no chemical uptake.

This is a good lesson to those who think "just mix it a little stronger and it will do better". The opposite is true if you mix a concoction that knocks the leaves off right away..... for many, the lesson is never learned.... stuff looks dead, but comes back.

I looked at those pictures that were posted, and i have looked before, and i still just ain't smart enough to figure out the difference. The only thing i have to go by is that i cannot remember this stuff ever turning 'yellow' so, thats why im pretty sure its mesquite. Not to worry, im going to post a couple pics and you guys can help me ID it.

The problem is that some of this HAS been cut back, so I have the low lying ones that just have a few stems that lay on the ground. The others however are 10-15' tall with scrawny stems at the ground. Instead of one big stem, there is like 8-10 or more small ones. I guess the base spray will work here too.

Dam...Tex Aggie....i got some on order already. Whats the 'good' price for it per gallon?

EDIT: PICS!

huisache has 2 thorns that make like a V

Mesquite has 1 individual thorn.

Remedy Ultra $80
Reclaim $around 200

Well, the pictures look like a V to me, but i still think its mesquite...yes?

Reclaim is simply too expensive for my taste. Can I get away with remedy alone for foliar spray on small (non tree like) types?

Sometimes they sell it under the name "Buccaneer".

buccaneer is generic roundup, generic remidy is clear pasture

The only thing worse than a poor loser is a poor winner.

Remedy alone is a waste of time and money. You'll knock off the leaves for a season, but it won't kill the trees.

can you do the foliar spray at any time or only when they are budding out?

Well, the pictures are in the link. Do you think the small mesquite or huisache, whatever the heck it is, will be adequately dealt with with a reclaim/remedy foliar mix? Keep in mind some of those 'new growth' are mowed down trees that were once 8' tall. I was pretty much going to stick with the brush busters recipes, which is what was posted here too i think.

For huisache the best product is Surmount. But it is restricted. Spray foliar with water and it is also pricey but you get what you pay for

That looks like huisache in the pics

You want to spray foliar when the leaves are healthy and mature/dark green. That usually means mid-June around south/central Tx. After that, the leaves get eaten/begin to fall off from stress, etc.

It may be too late. Basal works anytime.
