Came down to "God's Country" this past weekend for Parent's Weekend. My daughter, who is currently a junior, asked me to build her a beer pong table for the new house that they will be moving into in June. I asked her how big it needed to be. She said it had to be at least 9 feet long and six beers wide but she was not sure. She also said it needed to be waist high.
My thought was to build it such that it could also double as a dining table.
Can any one give me some exact measurements on the size of this table? Or is their a regulation size?
I would also appreciate any other advice or ideas any one may have.

To keep it outdoors related, they plan on using it on their back porch.

I wasn't aware that there was a regulation table size, but apparently there is. Here's some info from wikipedia.

My friend made a really cool beer pong table that he took out to football tailgates. The top of the table he painted like the playing surface of Kyle Field, with yard lines and end zones and the 50 yd line logo.

Make sure that you build it out of material that is easy to clean, water proof and always for a good bounce. We had an awesome looking beer pong table that was clear with lights and it looked awesome...but the balls wouldn't bounce and after a while it was so stained up it was just ugly to look at.

I don't have anything beneficial to add to this thread.

However, the fact that you even considered making her a beer pong table puts you in the running for father of the year (at least in a college student's eyes).

i bought a "pong a long beer" pong table. i dont know it its possible for you to do it - but ours folds up so we can take it to other parties!

That diagram has to be in yards or meters...

Just make it out of a 4X8 sheet of plywood. That's what our is. But we play on fold-up tables all the time.

8'x 2' is what i've always played on

edit: if you go 4'x8' as Sean mentioned you can have them cut in half and have 2 tables for pretty damn cheap.

i bought a 4'x8' piece of plywood at home depot and had it cut in half for less than $10. one table is at my place and the other is at my buddies

Thanks for all of the advice. I was planning on making it out of wood. Probably use a cabinet grade plywood for the top. We will come up with a unique design and probably polyurethane the whole thing.

Wildcat, they way we(the wife and I)look at it, we are not gonna stop her from drinking so we would rather she do it at her house instead of having to drive somewhere else to do it.

Agm2be, I plan on making it heavy enough that it is not portable. See paragraph above. I do not mind her drinking, I just do not want her driving afterwards. I have not had to worry about it so far. She is too smart to drink and drive. My second daughter starts there in the fall and they will be living together. This way, I will not have to worry about either of them.

Most tables are 8' long. The width doesn't really matter, but I wouldn't make it less than 2'. My pong-a-long table folds up into four 2'x 2' sections and fits nicely in my jeep.

Call your local Habitat for Humanity ReStore to see if they may have a solid core door or piece of cabinet-grade plywood. It'll be immobile, durable, inexpensive, and will help provide decent affordable housing in the area.
