Anyone have a good remedy for keeping this stuff from coming back?

Hiring a dozer wasn't realistic so I took a bunch out with a chainsaw at ground level. I imagine they will sprout up again pretty quickly.

Will round up kill the stumps? I'm reluctant to pour gas on them because many are right around nice oaks or elms.

Thanks for any advice.

Remedy works well.

1. dig around roots.
2. attach chain to roots and receiver hitch.
3. remove roots.

Go with AggiePam's advice.

We've tried pulling them at my parents place. Leave a small bit of root in the ground and they'll pop right back up in a few months. You'll also find that frequently a clump of 5 or 6 trees/bushes are all linked by a common root system.

Yep, they grow residually from roots.

I've been shredding mine down for 16 months or so. It has worked well in some areas, and the yaupon died off, but in others it does still try to grow back because the root systems are too well developed. I'll probably have to pull those roots or use diesel/rememdy on the stumps.

What Pam said. Fresh cut stump treatment is virtually 100% kill. Fresh is the key - minutes, not hours after cutting makes a difference.

I have always found that once the stumps dry out they can be pulled fairly easily.

Remedy might work the best, but why not try some flammable liquid and fire first? Doesn't that fix everything?

Got Agent Orange?

I had a giant Wysteria bush/tree. I would have grown on the face of the sun. Eighty feet long, and several trunks to boot. We cut it back, and cut it back down to the stumps, then liberal amounts of Round Up.

The dying breath was drilling the "stumps" and putting rock salt in them.

It took a Bobcat dozer to get the hundreds of roots up, and we know some still exist. However it finally after two years shows no signs of return.

I do love the sound of yaupon igniting, but listen to Pam (B 1-83).

Everything above ground level went into a gigantic pile and then into a fireball that I suspect was detected by NORAD.

The English language is inadequate for describing the complete and total loathing I feel toward *#*@^*$ Yaupons.

Thanks for the tip on Remedy, I'll be picking up a jug or two at a fine retailer very soon.
