I'm doing a small shower remodel and while at HD I noticed these connectors that don't require a sweated connection like traditional copper connections. Apparently it's like a Chinese finger trap for copper pipe.

Just wondering if anyone has used them and what the opinion was.

Are you talking about PEX? The new PEX pipe works that way.

All I know is that they are branded as "Shark Bite" and they are right above all the conventional copper plumbing assembly pieces.

Here is the link,

I'm just curious to know if I can use these, close the wall up, and still sleep at night.

Why would you want to use those?

Buy a propane or mapp torch, solder, paste, scotchbrite and do it right. Then you will have the tools for life.

I've already got all the tools for conventional copper fittings. I just saw these for the first time and was curious how well they work.

Only thing worse is those fitting that have the solder already in them so you only have to "heat up the fitting". Junk Junk Junk Junk

Sounds like the regular ol' sweat connections still takes the cake.

What really makes the decision easy is comparing prices. A regular 1/2" sweat 90 is about .48 and the Shark Bite 90 is about $6.

i used them in my remodel. haven't had any problems, but it's only been about 2 years. if you are not using pex i would go with the traditions copper fittings. but pex is super easy to use and much faster, plus it's bursting threashold is much higher

I have used sharkbites on PVC. Still holding water 2 years later. You cannot pull them off with your bare hands once installed. You have to use a special tool that releases the teeth to get them off...
