The Corp property around Lake Whitney is free for anyone to hunt. Just google Lake Whitney Hunting and their website will give you all the information you need. The biggest thing is you have to go register with the Corp at the headquarters located at the dam. To register you will need a current hunting liscense and hunting safety card. They are a typical goverment office in that they are only open monday thru friday from 9 to 5. You don't want to get caught hunting with out registering with them as the penalty is pretty stiff. They will provide you with a map of all the available areas around the lake. For places to stay, you can camp at any of the parks around the lake for pretty cheap. Some areas around the lake have good groups of turkeys this year. I grew up hunting there and over the years killed several good turkeys. My dad still lives and hunts in the area, but I don't usually make it down there in the spring time.
Also, besure to wear blaze orange. Being that it is a public hunting area always be sure of your target and make sure you are not calling up someone else. Like most public areas there is usually a few people there on opening weekends and the othr weekends during the seasaon. If you can make it there during the week, most of the time you can have the place to yourself.
Another good tip is if you have access to a boat it can make getting to some of the areas alot easier. Most of the areas have public road access, but some areas don't have road access but you can get to them by boat.
Any other questions just let me know and I will try to check back and answer them.
