sureley these situations don't just happen to my buddies and me when we're playing knockout.



scenario 1:

shooter 1 hits the clay but only enough to knock off a small piece. the clay is clearly hit but still in flight.

shooter 2 follows up and hits the now "wounded" clay square - bursts into orange dust.

is shooter 1 out?



scenario 2:

shooter 1 misses. shooter 2 misses. shooter 3 hits.

are shooters 1 and 2 out, or only shooter 2?

Either way for both of those. Just have to make the rules clear ahead of time. Same goes for multiple shots.

Rules? We don't need no stinkin' rules.

If we knew the rules, then what would we argue about after the game was over?

The way we play:

Scenario 1 - Player 2 is out for shooting a bird that was already hit.
Scenario 2 - Player 1 and 2 are out since they both missed and Player 3 hit.

Shooter #2 is out....you said #1 hit the target.

Shooter #1&2 are out

We usually play where if a large enough chunk of the bird is left then shooter #2 can shoot the remaining chunk.

Don't leave large chunks.

As for the second scenario, both shooters who missed are out, or at least have a "hickie".

But this is just like washers, as long as everyone knows the rules before the game starts then it doesn't really matter.

Put $100+ in if you get knocked out....that way you will get the rules sorted out up front.

the way we play, shoter 1 is out in the first scenario, and shooters 1 and 2 would be out in the second. YMMV

If you shoot and don't break what you are shooting at the next man has a chance of knocking you out.

#1 - Shooter 1 is out, but had shooter 2 shot at the piece and missed and shooter 1 then hit the piece shooter 2 would be out. Following shooter 2 missing had shooter 3 shot and hit the piece both shooter 1 and 2 would have been out.

That's why I only shoot pigeons!

Scenario 1 - Nobody is out. Nothing wrong with cleaning up after someone. But shooter 1 got a piece and that's all that matters to keep him in.

Scenario 2 - Both shooters 1 and 2 are out.

Spot on.

When we play we only have 2 shooters up on the line at one time, so there couldn't be a scenario #2 for us. But in scenario #1 the first man is out unless he can re-brake another smaller piece left by shooter #2.

It was always called Annie Oakley when I played.

If you ever shot a chipped bird on a trap range....you were out.

On skeet I've played it a couple of ways. If you hit a chip the first shooter is out provided you hit the next target. If you miss you are out and he is still in.

Likewise I've played where if you hit a chip you must hit the next target. If you miss...both are still in.

Maybe we could come up with Outdoor Board Annie Oakley rules....
