Guys,

How difficult is it to install an Aimpoint CompM4 on my AR? I ask because I still haven't received it in the mail just yet. I'm sure when I do it will contain some instructions. From what I understand, this particular scope has everything I would need to install it on the picatinny rail, but I'm wondering if installation is relatively straight forward.

I'm also wondering if my gun will need bore sighting, etc. As you can tell, I'm new to red dot optics and don't really know a whole lot about them. I probably bought way too much optics for my skill, but how could I pass up $400 for a brand new CompM4?

The site should just tighten town on the rail. Figure out where you like it the most, I prefer to have it as far forward as possible for better field of view with both eyes open.

If your iron sites are zeroed then just lolly pop the red dot on top of the front site post and you should be good.

Remember even with a red dot the 4 fundamentals of shooting still apply.

Looks like it attaches via a thumb screw so you don't even need any tools. Set it on the rail, tighten the one screw, and it's on. If you have iron sights on the gun already just look through the sights and move the dot until it aligns with where the iron sights are aiming. If you don't have iron sights just set your first target at around 25 yards. Get it close to zeroed at that range them move back to 100 yards or wherever you want your zero to be and you're done.

Cool. That does sounds relatively easy. I have a carry handle on mine, which I believe the scope comes with a mount if you decide to mount it on the carry handle, but I don't think I will. I think I'll remove the carry handle and install it on the rail.

I think it would look strange mounted on the handle, no? Also, to the comment about mounting on the front sight? Is that not too far forward?

You might want to put a bit of blue loctite on the threads so it doesnt back out over time.

I'd get Larue's base for it.
