Man, that's close to the area of one of my dad's plots of land. T&P for the family.

Much of my family is from that area. Kirsten was my cousin's best friend.

According to my cousin, Kirsten was in the back seat of a truck with another girl. One of the boys was checking a hog trap when a couple hogs outside the trap charged him. As he ran back to the truck, one of the hogs bumped him and caused him to drop his rifle. The rifle discharged and shot Kirsten in the head, killing her instantly. The shot almost hit the girl sitting next to her as well.

Don't think he saw the hogs. My understanding is that they surprised just as much as he surprised them.

You are ALWAYS responsible for where your barrel is pointed, as soon as you lay hand to a weapon. Running with a loaded, charged rifle = taking a risk.

Agreed, it was still a freak accident and tragedy, but I'm saying it was possible to avoid it alltogether. I don't think he should blame himself, nor should anyone else, because accidents do happen.

Heard different story. Girls were in back of pickup ( I think in the bed--not the back seat) Boy was outside and was going to shoot a hog that was in the trap, but he wanted to back up some so as to not be so close to the trap when shooting. Evidently had gun off safety as he was preparing to shoot. As he was backing up he tripped--rifle barrel changed directions and gun went off striking the young girl in the head. The girl was a truly outstanding person I understand. Certainly not intentional, but careless. All involved are devastated.

So sad that things like this happen.
Thoughts and prayers to all who were involved in this accident.

Two lives ruined, not to mention the family grief.
