I'm fishing the south side of Galveston Bay tomorrow (just over the bridge). I'm getting there tomorrow morning and looking to pick up some live shrimp right away.

Where is good and close to the pass, preferably on that side of the bridge, and open at around 5-6 am?

I would prefer something on that side... I know all of bait shops on 45/the island, but I'm gonna be fishing the pier for 24 hours, and not looking to make the 45 min+ drive for a refill.

If you're coming down from the Galveston side there are several places right along 45 as you come into town. A couple more along 61st St. as you head towards the seawall. And further down is West Bay Bait & Tackle (just SW of Jamaica Beach), and lastly Rusty Hook across from the last beach access point before you get to SLP.

Oh, and btw, last time I was down on the island, I made my first stop at Tucker and Sons bait off of 61st street. $14 a quart for shrimp, plus there's a retired Aggie there who will set you up with extra. Tucker's an old dinosaur of a man but a good dude.

You mean the Surfside side? Ernie's bait camp is just 3-4 miles down the road on the X-mas bay side towards freeport.

Bright Lite used to not open until 7, at least during the week. Nothing pissed me off more than leaving College Station at 3 a.m. only to have to wait almost an hour to get bait.

Thanks for the help, I've never fished across the bridge.

That reminds me... A buddy and I decided one Friday night that we'd go fishing in Texas City, so we loaded up and drove down from College Station, neither one of us ever having set foot near Texas City. We get near the dike and stop at this two-story bait shop meets bar. It was about 12:30 AM. We walk upstairs to the register and ask for some bait. The 55 year old "lady" behind the counter then asks us in a 40 years of smoking scratchy voice, "Are you wanting to fish, or do you want to have a good time?"

We took our shrimp and left.

Well, did you have a good time?

Oh, and TTIWWOP.

What happens in Texas City stays in Texas City.

Haha I like the implied awkward silence of having to tell her you indeed wanted shrimp, waiting to get it, paying and leaving.
