Just curious as to which buoy y'all use to look at weather/swell height and wind.

42019? If you can give the link, I'm trying to make sure I can get offshore on friday (Yes I know conditions can change every hour but it'll be a good est.)

42035 is the Galveston 22 mile buoy, 42019 is the Freeport 65 mile buoy.
See this:

Buoyweather is another good source for their virtual buoys and good forecasting.

Finally, look at the surf cam.

How bad was that storm that blew up around you? Was it big or kinda small and concentrated?

It wasn't huge like a weather front, but it was big enough that I couldn't outrun it. I would say medium.
