Played there recently, Greens are totally unfair, not a level one on the course. The pro is a Longhorn. Soaking wet when we played, Unfriendly Marshal, what more can I say?

Go down the road to Colo Vista. Owned by Les Appelt (ie Appelt Hall).

Les Appelt passed away some time ago and heirs have not kept it up. Closed the clubhouse and pro shop, course is in bad shape and they are looking for a buyer.

Les Appelt was a cousin of mine. My great grandmother was an Appelt. Sad to hear that the course management has let it go down. He was very proud of that course. He passed away about 2 years ago. He was a typical Texas millionare. Showed up to our reunions in boots, hat and faded jeans. Did not flash his money at all. From what I hear from family members, he had the #1 producing gas well in Texas for about a decade, hence his fortune.

I used to run the Appelt Visitor Center in the 1st floor of Rudder and Les would stop by all the time. Great guy, typical (which is to say Amazing!) Aggie. Always dropping off awesome tickets for me to distribute to our student workers, visiting with our prospective students, etc.

I cherish the numerous times he invited me down to Bastrop to play ColoVista with him (although I never did figure out which club to hit off the bluff to that damn green 300 feet below the tee box!).

I worked there in the late 80s and Les would drive up in an old white van on the weekends. I had no idea at the time who he was. The course was owned by the bank at the time. I left when the current owners took over back in 1990. From what I remember they were complete horses a$$es.

(Agsuper1) I believe you are talking about the owners of Pine Forest, right. ColVista was always owned and operated by Les Appelt until his death. I forgot one thing about Pine Forest. I never had an even lie, and that was on the tees. Some of the most uneven tees I have encountered.

Playing Pine Forest today. I am a member there. You are right about the greens, very unfair. The golf pro is a sip and his name is Zach. All of us Aggies call him Pro-Zach. Pisses him off which makes us do it more.

Colovista has gone down hill since Les's passing. The family wants to get rid of it. An investor group out of Dallas has a contract on it. Hope they buy it. Too nice of a track to let go.

I knew Les personally for years. He bought some of the gravel used on some of the cart paths from me. Super Ag. Always giving. Big contributor to our local Muster.

Oh, and Wolfdancer is a great course but way over priced for me.

pine forest has memberships? that's funny.

it is a fantastic set-up that they have let go to crap. if they could pay for the upkeep on the grass it would be one of the best courses in the state. it's incredibly unique.
