I just moved to Houston about three weeks ago. I've been itching to go fishing. I have plans to get a kayak before too long. But for now I just want a place I can go wade fishing. I don't have much experience bay fishing so any pointers or advice would be appreciated.

Would Seawolf Park near Galveston be an alright place for me to check out this weekend? I've heard talk on here about San Luis Pass, Sportmans Rd, as well as others. Any Tips on where to go or what to throw this time of year would be much appreciated by this newbie.

And I live in The Heights, in case there are other places that would be closer to me.

Seabrook off Toddville Rd or El Jardin Park would be closer.

Or Dollar Flats off the seawall next to the TCD. There should be a few trout showing up...

I used to go by the draw bridge between galveston island and pelican island when I went to school at Tamug.

Weather depending... Looks like front might move through and wind shift saturday morning. If that is the case it will be hard to call where to fish. Forecasted winds saturday @ 1AM N @ 5kts, shifting to ENE @ 5kts by 7AM. Basically a lot of shorelines are going to get dirty. Might be better off to go for an evening wade saturday or early morning wade sunday but still looks like quite a bit of wind (SSE @ 10kts). Checked Seabrook/Todville this morning and saw some pelicans working but dirty water and some chop. Also checked Kemah Flats, no birds and same water conditions. Drawbridge near TAMUG / Pelican island hasn't been working much. A couple big black drum recently but haven't heard of much more moving through the area. Email me at FSawyer at HorizonLines.com if you want my recommendation. Also, check GalvNews.com's fishing report for some decent info as well.

Do folks still wade fish San Louis Pass? Used to be a real hot spot, but had a decent drowning rate when folks stepped out into the tidal channel.

People still do and one or two drown it seems like each summer. Its also been pretty dangerous lately for kayakers as well. Lots of current out there today.

I used to swim out through the guts to the Pass right next to the anchored boats until a 6-foot bull shark passed me one day on my swim back. Literally swam right around me and kept going. I never saw it until it pulled right up next to me.

Glad I didn't have anything on the stringer.
