A couple of buddies and I want to do some wade fishing this weekend around the Houston/Galveston area. Anyone have any "recommended" spots that we may want to try out?

I know of some places but I've only lived in Houston for a year, so I am a novice in this area.

Has anyone ever fished the McCollum Park Rd spillway east of Baytown off of 2354? I was told you can wade to that spot but I was gonna ask around first so get some other opinions.

I used to wade off the seawall and off TX city dike on dollar flats alot, but this isn't the best time of year for that. There are some big fish on the oyster reef, but not alot of em.

You can wade parts of confederate reed at the end of sportsmens road...

buy one of those hook and line maps at Academy for $15. It will tell you where, and when to fish and which fish to target.

There's a reef called Levee Reef along Skyline Dr. (Texas City) between Dollar Point and the flood gates to Moses Lake. Tides right now should let you wade out close to the reef.

You might still be able to park around Pirate's Landing/Jamaica Beach/Sea Isle, G.I. State Park and wade into some of those coves on the south shoreline of West Bay. Also going across San Luis Pass and taking a right on any of the dirt roads through the marsh to Christmas Bay.

If you want to drive a little and there's an east or northeast wind the shoreline on the north side of East Bay is another option. The Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge. When the roads split either one will take you to the bay. Stay left and come out in front of the cedars heading towards Frozen Point. Wade in there.

Any one of these spots throw Corkys/Corky Devils, Mirrolure Catch 2000's, slow plastics on bottom, or slow worked topwaters right now.

Edit: Also....used to be you could wade in on numerous spots off Toddville Rd. in Seabrook (we used to fish that area in tubes in the winter) or further up around Red Bluff Point. Incoming tide and a white/silver 51 series Mirrolure or Shifty Shiner used to do the trick there.

Never had a lot of luck this time of year around McCollom Pk., and trucks get broke into there a lot more than used to.

Mouth is right too.....Sportsman Rd. is I think 8 Mile Rd. off the extension of Ave. S in Galveston. Take a right, go to the end and hang a left and park at the end.

The back side of Pelican Island is a good spot, but it is pretty early in the year for much to be moving into the shallow flats unless you get a good calm and sunny day. You can park out on the road and chance having your car broken into while you hike to the back side of the island, or you can pay the entry fee at seawolf park and do it the easy way.

You can wade in at McCollom Park. Its a good area. I would work the shoreline towards the warm water discharge. Its a long wade to this area, about a mile, but that area holds some good Redfish this time of year. I fished close to this area a couple of weeks ago, did fairly well using Devil Eyes and Corky's.
