OK, so i have an older rifle that i added some taller scope rings to. Well, when tightening the windage adjustment screws, one of them broke...the head broke off. The threads backed out of the mount itself with no problems. Im not sure if the screw was weak, or i just got over confident with it. Either way, Redfield is out of business and leupold doesnt make a screw thats similar. Does anyone have any ideas as to what i can do to get a replacement?

Odd...I have a Redfield Jr scope mount from the 60's. It takes the same screw as a leupold or burris. I say go to any gunsmith, he should fix you up.

OK, thanks for the info. Im going to call around and see if i can find one. This rifle is old, and its a custom job, and quite honestly, im reluctanct to try to take the base off if i can at all avoid it. If for some reason the screws are stuck, or rusted, and the head snaps off, then its going to have to go to the gun smith for sure. If i can't find a screw, then ill have to try to take it off, and if i can get it off, then i can just buy a Leupold base that is exactly the same, and hopefully the same quality (not a slam, i don't know anything about the different brands). Ive never had any problems with the redfield mount, the scope itself is a weaver that is probably close to 40 years old. It seems to site in well.

Jed1154 redfield is now owned by Meade instruments, sometimes shown as Meade Optical. i looked at midwayusa.com and they still show redfield bases. you might give midway a call. the problem you described with the windage screw on the base is a somewhat common problem that redfield had with their bases. swampstander has given you the best solution since most gunsmiths probably have redfield bases sitting in their "junk box".

The base is fine. Its the screw i need. The head of the screw snapped off. The base is perfectly fine. I found a gunsmith locally that says they have them, so well see tonight. Thanks for the company link though. Actually, i think i saw them when i did a quick search. Its an older shop, so they likely have a bunch of bases and screws sitting in their spare parts drawer like you say.

jed buying the bases from someone would be an expensive last resort method of getting the screws. like i said swamp has the best solution.

Yep, im gonna try it.

I have to be careful this next time. Im not sure how 'tight' the screw needs to be, but im going to attempt to get it between 'not tight enough' and 'broken'.
