Nominate game soundtracks for games that went harder than they needed. Or were simply just badass.

My nomination is Road Rash on PS1.

"Rusty Cage" by Soundgarden on the title screen made me feel like a real rocker.

Hydrocity Zone from Sonic 3 absolutely goes hard.

The sounds certain composers could get out of those ancient processors.

All the Mega Mans, although MM2 is probably the most memorable.

Donkey Kong tropical freeze soundtrack…honestly the whole ost for it goes unbelievably out of control. I play it around the house and work

Busted Bayou may be the best one

One of the best tracks in an absolutely loaded list of tracks from Destiny 1. This plays in one of the first missions of the game. Makes you feel like an absolute badass while slaughtering the hive and reactivating a golden age communications array.

Celeste soundtrack is awesome

Balatro has great music too, but this dude Dom Palombi does video game music covers, his Balatro stuff is fantastic.

He's got covers from a ton of other games

I can't decide which collection of Battle / Boss / special boss / final boss music is best between FF4, 6 and 7. Not a bad one in the bunch.

FF Tactics in incredible too.

Just the first track, but the whole sound track goes hard IMHO.

This one is a deep dive but does anybody else remember "Flirting with Disaster" in Nascar 98? 16 year old me thought this was pretty badass.

When it comes to old NES 8-bit soundtracks, this is the undisputed GOAT

And adding Bloody Tears to the animated show was so damn perfect…

This thread has gone this far and not a single Fromsoft piece? I must remedy this afront to gaming AND music!

Ludwig, the Accursed & Holy Blade. For those who've actually played this masterpiece, you know the cut scene before phase two before the score just goes harder than any game score ever has the right to be:

The whole soundtrack hit hard. And it was awesome that you could use the game CD in a walkman to listen to it. I would rock the 90s ghetto rigged tape adapter in the car to blast this with windows down.

If you're a fan of 60's - 70's spy movie trope (including Austin Powers) this was extremely well orchestrated and performed. This is the whole soundtrack, but the menu tracks always remind me of old Bond/Get Smart/etc. shows.

The soundtracks from the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games absolutely helped shape my musical tastes back when they came out and I was a teenager.

I have a huge soft spot for the Burnout 1 soundtrack. It's annoying it's not on Spotify.

And I'm an N64 kid so most of my favorites come from that generation. OoT, MM, SM64, DK64, GoldenEye

I always separate original score from soundtrack, so:

Score: 1) FF7, 2) The Last of Us, 3) Ocarina of Time

Soundtrack: 1) Gran Turismo 1, 2) THPS 1-3, 3) GTA San Andreas

For score, have to include Skyrim: Elder Scrolls: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Soundtrack (OST)
