Is anyone else finding this becoming excessive?

Pause a video, screen shrinks and add with QR code in the box to right. Then when you hit play to get the video going again, the add is now ON the screen over the video with a QR code. 10-minute videos have 2 or sometimes more add breaks at 50+ seconds each.

I know I can use my browser on my tablet or PC to block the commercials, but sometimes I want to watch from the couch on a big screen.

YouTube is becoming borderline unusable at this point.

YT will give you 2 months of premium for free. If you use YT at all, you'll never go back.

I use Tizen Tube, which is FREE ! Here's a link: Tizen Tube

Depends on if you want it installed on a FireTV device, or a Smart TV, but the link should get you there. I've used it for quite a while now and it works great and allows you to skip "sponsor" segments, etc.; and, no ads or pop-ups.

IMO they are intentionally making ads as annoying as possible to get people to sign up for Premium. It's gotten more expensive every year it seems.

Staring at a QR code is a lot more interesting than soccer.

I know it's exactly what they want, but as someone who watches a lot of youtube, premium is by far the best subscription i pay for. The price isn't bad at all imo when you figure in that you get Youtube Music also. $15.99/mo compared to just a Spotify Premium subscription that's $12.99

YouTube used to be my go to for treadmill or Peloton when just doing mindless movement exercises.

Eff that, I rarely ever use YT anymore. Now it is only a useful tool for mechanical fix vids.

The ads and AI slop have made YT unconsumable for intelligent people.

That's capitalism for you though. They are free to squeeze max profits and I am free to turn it off.

Yep, been using premium for a couple years now and can't imagine going back. I honestly forget that it has adds. I use YT all the time and don't mind paying.

But what is becoming more common and annoying... So many podcasts will start talking about their sponsors mid video. So I gotta pick up the remote and manually fast forward. Lame.

Yep. I find myself watching it on my PC over the TV unless its football games just because of the ads. But I do like the YTTV app over the ESPN app on the TV (Samsung)

Yep exactly. Plus offline YouTube videos and being able to listen while the phone is locked make it very useful on plane rides.

You're bad at using youtube.

If by bad, you mean that I am not interested in meticulously managing a feed to limit AI content in the algo that YT has curated for me, not purchasing and configuring additional hardware to filter out ad traffic, not playing whack-a-mole across my devices with an ever-changing set protocols meant to break whatever ad deterrents I may set up and not paying a tarded monthly fee for YT Premium like so many, then yes I am bad at using YouTube.

It is simply easier to tune out and do something more worthwhile with my free time than being a digital content slave and paypig.

agreed on the ads, but the AI slop makes for great background noise while driving. I listen to a couple different HFY channels for some good laughs at how dumb AI gets.

I just take the extra couple of minutes to move my laptop to the living room, connect the HDMI cable, and use that for YouTube in the living room. Takes less time than the total amount of commercials I would get in a single video.

Win.
