I definitely had to learn the way to beat wolf packs is to simply perfect block them. They only attack you one at a time, and then that one runs away if you perfect block him. If you have a longsword, you can perfect block, riposte, and then hit him at least once and usually twice for the kill. Easy day. Granted, if it's a dog among 2 other human enemies, you have to really focus on positioning so as not to get overwhelmed.
Going to the swordmaster guy early is definitely helpful. I waited a bit, thinking I knew what I was doing, but found out I didn't know about master strikes. With that knowledge, i'm wrecking fools with my longsword. Granted, if you miss one or miss a perfect block, the enemies at my current level can still do some damage against me.
I've been enjoying my playtime throughout the week. I've been logging about 3 hours a night and am looking forward to getting to really sink some time into it this weekend. I've been taking my time and doing one quest at a time. I'm also taking time to do alchemy and other minor skills to just lean into the medieval role playing.
So far, this game is delivering. I'm kind of mad I even watched a couple of non spoilery reviews of it first because even knowing basic stuff like where you ultimately go would have been much more fun to find out for myself.
