Coming out next month. Anyone going to be playing? With cross platform multiplayer it should make things interesting. Played a decent amount of World but then got busy. Going to jump back in once Wilds releases. I missed the first beta but will be trying beta 2.

My favorite game franchise of all time, so it will be a day 1 purchase for me. I will be picking it up on PC and my son will be getting it for PS5. I played the first beta some, but I want to keep things as fresh as possible for release so I didn't play for more than an hour or two. Probably will skip the second beta.

Going to wait and see for reviews.

The Beta had really bad performance issues that I hope get ironed out.

I'm also kind of burned out on Monster Hunter, I hope they can do something to get me interested again

World was amazing. Rise was meh. Hoping Wilds finds the magic for me again.

A game I will buy, like I do all the others, building up how fun it should be in my mind. Then I will play for a few hours and get tired of the loop and move on to something else, lol.

I really want to love these games...

Capcom has two development teams for Monster Hunter that alternate releases. One does the "mainline" titles, i.e. the previously numbered titles 1, 2, 3, etc. MH World (functionally Monster Hunter 5) was developed by this team.

The second team develops spin-off/side titles- the portable titles, Generations, and Rise.

Wilds is being developed by the mainline (MH World) team.

Good to know, guess I'll be checking it out at some point!

I can't wait. I played the first beta, and the next beta is coming up. I hope they implement the hit stop changes that were announced.

Wilds felt a lot like Worlds, which I prefer over Rise.

I'm leaning towards GS as my main for Wilds but I still want to try HH, Hammer and LS. I didn't get to play all the weapons in the first beta.

Unfortunately, there will not be any changes as a result of player feedback such as hit stop. The second beta will be the same build as the first beta, with the addition of Gypceros as an encounterable monster.

The second beta is just to give players who missed the first beta an opportunity to try the game.

Reminder to anyone interested, the 2nd Monster Hunter Wilds open beta test will begin tomorrow, February 6th at 7 pm and until 7 pm on Sunday for all platforms. This will be followed by another Thurs-Sun test period the following week.

All details about the beta can be found on the official MHWi beta page: https://www.monsterhunter.com/wilds/en-us/obt/

As mentioned earlier, this is the same build as the first beta test. Optimization and gameplay changes like improved hit stop will not be present in this build.

However, Capcom has decided to add some new elements to the build. In addition to the aforementioned Gypceros hunt, the Monster Hunter Wilds flagship monster Arkveld WILL be available to hunt in this beta test.

Additional new features include access to the training area, private lobbies, and single-player only lobbies.

Finally, for anyone interested in picking the game up on PC, Capcom stealth-dropped a new benchmark tool on Steam for Monster Hunter Wilds. My understanding is that the benchmark tool is running on the release build that has been optimized, and initial reports are that it is showing much better numbers than the beta build. Capcom has also lowered the minimum required specs for the game as further evidence of the improvements made.

Full details on the benchmark tool can be found here: https://www.monsterhunter.com/wilds/en-us/benchmark/

Thanks for the reminder. Looks like 7 pm PT, so 9 pm CT for us in Texas. Hunter/palico character creation will be able to be carried over to the full release, if desired, with unlimited recreations during the beta!

I've never played any of the Monster Hunter games. What would you compare them to?
Red Five

Unfortunately, I don't know that I would compare it to anything. It's fairly unique in my mind, though others may have a different opinion.

Monster Hunter is an action RPG with a core loop of 1) fight a monster, 2) harvest parts from the defeated monster, 3) use the parts to craft stronger weapons and armor, 4) fight a harder monster. Older games had virtually no additional window dressing on top, while the newer games have begun to incorporate a full story experience. At the core though, the main gameplay loop is unchanged.

The player character has no stats, skills, or abilities, and you never level up. Everything is determined by your equipment and personal skill. The combat isn't hack and slash, though some weapons move faster than others. It's a more deliberate and methodical style of combat. Generally you will want to learn the attack and movement patterns of a monster and use openings to deal as much damage as possible in a window without overstaying your welcome. You'll never be able to just tank a monster. There are some counter/parry mechanics in some weapons, but it isn't a souls-like in that respect.

If you like playing online with other people Monster Hunter is generally regarded as an excellent co-op game. All the content is solo-able though, if you are dedicated enough.

Generally I obviously think its a great game franchise and recommend anyone give it a try. The newer entries are much easier to get into than they used to be.

If I had to compare it to something, I would say it is kinda like fighting Dark Souls bosses, using their drops to build better gear to hunt harder bosses, rinse, repeat. Although that feels like underselling the specialness of MH games.

I've been waiting for this one for a while. The Arkveld is so freaking hard, I don't think I have come close to beating it this weekend.

With the PSN down the first part of the weekend I didn't get to play as much as I wanted, but liking the changes so far. Didn't try Arkveld, but all the other monsters were fun to fight. Hopefully they let us carry over settings too, I had to change several things to get it to feel right, but took a video just in case.

I've never played any of them but based on the descriptions here it sounds a lot like the Horizon games on PlayStation where you defeat different beasts and use the parts they drop to level up your weapons and armor. If that's the case I need to look into it because the Horizon games are great.

It's definitely it's own thing, so it's hard to compare to other games. The monster hunts are like boss fights in Souls games, but the monsters run away a lot. So you have to keep chasing them, and other monsters can join in the fight with you and the monster you're hunting. It's not open world, but you go to certain large biome-themed areas and those are pretty wide open to explore. You can go to the different maps and just screw around collecting materials and killing things, or you can go on timed hunts with better rewards.

The gameplay is whatever you want it to be. The weapons are all very unique and different. Some play like an FPS and others more like a Souls game. If you like action games, then you'll probably find something you like. As said above, the gameplay loop is "hunt monster, get materials, make better equipment, hunt harder monster, repeat", but it's very addictive. I put over 500 hours in Monster Hunter World and I've never come close to that in any video game before

To add onto this post, you can expect to do some material farming to get the better weapons and armors. I know that may be a turnoff for people, but the game is really good at letting you focus an item and tell you where to get the mats from, so it is a bit easier than somewhere games that you have to take time because it's not always clear where stuff comes from.

Super important detail: if you need a specific drop for crafting, do not, under any circumstances, think about that drop for any reason, for any length of time, ever. The Desire Sensor is all-seeing and all-knowing; it doesn't feel pity or remorse; it knows no benevolence or mercy. Make your sacrifices and pray to RNGesus that you've done enough.

A new launch trailer dropped today, I like it. Not the most exciting news on title update 1, but we won't have to wait long until title update 2 this summer.

Any theories on what is up with that Rath?

I feel like it looks like Arkveld does when it starts to power up. Maybe an homage of sorts to the frenzy from MH4? Arkveld somehow infects other monsters?

Finally bested the Arkveld with a random group. We beat it at 19'58"59, so we had 1.01 sec left in the quest. That was a very satisfying feeling to finally down it.

Tried Arkveld twice with no completions, 20 mins goes quick. Also, he runs way too much, all monsters do right now. Glad they are fixing that in the full release.

FYI - this last Beta is being extended an additional 24 hours due to the PSN being down last weekend.

Game Day.

I will probably start with Great Sword, as I do just about every MH game, but I'm sure I will migrate to something else at some point. Naturally I will carry a pocket horn so I can doot for attack up and justice.

Dooting your pocket horn? Some religions frown upon that.
