I use my computer for running a simple CAD program with the following requirements:
  • Microsoft Windows 11 or 10
  • 64-bit Processor
  • 2.5 GHz processor or higher (small commercial)
  • 3.0 GHz processor or higher (large commercial)
  • 16 GB of system memory or higher
  • 2 GB of free hard disk space or higher
  • Graphics card and monitor capable of at least 1920 x 1080 resolution at 100% (96 dpi)
Stuff:
* I have a old flat screen Samsung TV I use as a monitor. Is it better to have an actual computer monitor?
*Currently running an almost 10 year old Lenovo laptop as my primary computer.
*Have a kick ass keyboard my neighbor gave me.
*Budget $1,500 -ish if necessary.
*I'm not building my own. Want to buy it, plug it in & go to work.
*Other use for computer: Interwebs (duh), normal microsoft office stuff.
*Please don't confuse me with technical questions beyond the aforementioned.
TIA nerds!!

Buy another Lenovo laptop, a docking station, and a nice 4k monitor. Any new model laptop will run what you need.

Any particular reason to buy a laptop vs a desktop? I'm not going to need to travel with it.
Also, what about Acer vs. Lenovo? I prefer to buy Taiwan vs. the Commies this time around if the products are similar enough.

Your computing needs are modest and you've succeeded in making your last laptop survive a decade. You may not plan to move it around in which case it sits and functions exactly like a desktop. But you may find a scenario where you don't want to print a cad drawing and dragging the laptop out to the garage may be convenient. The desktop doesn't have that flexibility.

If you were planning on gaming that needed lots of thermal management, the desktop is king.
