After losing power repeatedly and a power supply on my PC in the process during Beryl I am looking at getting a UPS to prevent that in the future. Growing up we had an APC UPS in the house, but I am not up to speed on the decent brands I should be looking at. Any recommendations?

Was thinking I probably need at least 1500VA to cover my gaming PC, modem/router, workstation and associated velocloud.

I have both APC and Cyberpower and they do what they are designed to do. You might consider getting one for your modem/router/wifi and another one for the other devices. That way you could keep the internet on for awhile versus using the other one to give you enough time to have them shut down gracefully. Also, I assume you are looking at the offline type which are the cheapest. For you computers you could look at stepping up to the line-interactive type.

I have found apc is more reliable over time than the cyberpower. 10 years ago I thought it was the opposite. If you have a backup generator be sure to adjust the settings for that. Each unit has a different process for that but choose the setting that is the least sensitive

I did also purchase a generator recently - I am guessing the fluctuations wouldn't be good for a UPS.

Apc has been the best for me as far as battery life and reliability compared to rando knock off amazon ones.

Be default most ups will not go off battery when on generator. But if you adjust for low sensitivity then it will be fine when on generator

I have used many but likely to move to xtreme power. They have standby. Line interactive and others. Come highly recommended by dave plumber on YouTube.

My UPS battery died, but I can just replace it with a standard 12v battery, correct? Just open the compartment and switch them out?

I've had success with deep cycle "marine" batteries from Batteries+.
