Finally getting around to replacing my PC. She's served me well since ~2015 (bought as soon as Skylake came out), but it's about time to replace.

Been out of the game for a while, so thoughts on this setup I quickly put together? Basically looking for bang for the buck and longevity. Assuming I don't become a hardcore gamer again (unlikely with my current lifestyle), want something that will perform well for 5+ years.

AMD the way to go these days? I haven't had one since the days of the Thunderbird like 25 years ago.

PC Use -

-Work - Standard M365, Video calls, IT type stuff - 6-7 windows may be open.
-Media Streaming server (Plex)
-Gaming, although not an enthusiast. Would consider upping my video card if this changes later on.

From my old PC, I'd probably bring over my current 3TB HDD for backup and Bluray heh) and I have a 34in wide monitor paired with a 24in.

Definitely dont need to splurge on the 7700x tbh. Thats overkill for your needs. I would lower it and spend any extras on bumping gfx card for future proofing. A 6600 8gb is mid/lower tier already for the current gen which is on the way out next year with 5000 series Nvidia cards and AMDs competitor cards. Just for dlss alone i recommend swapping to Nvidia card over amd. Also, for OS, you can get a bulk license off Groupon for like $20-30. Dont need to buy the in box ripiff ones. I have done it for the last 3 pcs i did up. Works great.

Example build. Reconfigured some parts and bumped the gfx to a 12gb 3060 at a minimum. Wasn't sure if you were going for an argb build or not. You can swap memory back if you were.

Parts you should shop for at time of buying rather than preplan are cases and power supplies as both have deals all the time each week on newegg/Amazon etc. Can find really good deals then on cases with fans and bells and whistles for cheaper.

CPU may be overkill, but guess it just seemed affordable so why not. Think a lot of my mindset is stuck in the 90s-00s where the CPU went obsolete and became the bottleneck really quickly. Kind of like not worrying about having to upgrade again until it's time for the next total rebuild.

A 3060 would get you by until you can find a deal probably when 5000 series hits. 4060 isn't worth it. You can try a used 3070 or better as well. Gfx cards are hard to buy until you actually need one unless some massive sale is going on like BF.

Newegg has some sales on the 3060 12gb, new at 277 or 279 for black friday.
