Can anyone speak to this TV in terms of it being slow to turn on, slow to progress thru it's apps.

When I try to open the 'DIRECTTV' streaming app...it's extremely slow and even once it does open it is really slow in allowing the channels to change, to bring up the guide and everything else.

As long as the WiFi is not slow or the issue...what could possible be the issue?

Are all apps slow to launch? i.e. YouTube, Netflix, others?

I have a high end TLC tv (don't remember the specific model), but it was generally slow launching any app. I got a Nvidia shield tv device to use for all streaming services and it is much faster to use. I then removed the tv from the internet all together for security reasons.
Any streaming device would work, but the Nvidia shield is one of the fastest/best performing.

Not sure about the guts/boards being shared but I've got a fire tv that is legit slow for almost all interactions.

Changing inputs takes 30-45 seconds.

I bought a TCL S4 (lower end than the QM7) recently, and the baked in Google TV experience is pretty brutal. Buying a Firestick will save your sanity.

Fire TVs are junk. Mine completely stopped connecting to the internet, and ironically I now I have a fire stick plugged in as the only way to use the damn thing. Firesticks are garbage too, and not terribly responsive, but at least it generally does the job at a low price. Not sure why the fire component to the tvs that have it built in are so bad though.

On topic, I have had two older TCLs with roku built in and they've been surprisingly rock solid. Ive completely avoided any other "smart" options, especially google tv. I only got the fire one because it was dirt cheap on sale. But personally, id avoid any TCLs that don't have roku. I don't think those exist anymore, though, so IMO the best cheapish alternative is to get a Roku brand tv. I have two of those now and they've been solid too. It's the only one I have where the "smart" component is actually usable.

We have a TCL outside and it WAY out performs the Fire TV.

Won't be making that mistake again.

I want this tv, but don't like google. Prefer when the top tier tcls used Roku.

I'm curious about why you're not considering getting a comparable Roku brand tv (they have two lines for the different tiers)? Are they more expensive? From what I've seen, the picture is pretty good, but I honestly don't know how they compare.

Or you can plug in a Roku device to that tv...?

I was planning on putting the fire tv outside, but now that I have to plug in a fire stick too, that's just too many cables (power to 2 outlets, hdmi) to deal with in what was supposed to be a simple single item setup. Im using it inside for now as a backup tv, but will be looking to pick up a roku tv to use outside when they run sales.

I have two 6 series TCL with built in Roku and love them but one has some shadows developed over the last 4 years and this was a good deal on the TCL Q7.

Has IMAX feature built in and it's really good.

Personally, I don't really worry about the smart or streaming portion of a TV when picking it. Granted, I also have bought 2 TVs in the past 12 years.

But seems streaming devices are so affordable, readily available, and supported longer that I don't want to make the TV decision around it. Especially when I just assume the manufacturer will eventually stop supporting my year/model TV.

Having said that, we now have a Samsung and it is convenient using the built in apps. But we also have an Apple TV hooked up to it and it's just as easy. And has advantages like more features w/in the ESPN app, like being apple to quad TV any games I want.

I'll be sitting there watching a college football game and all of a sudden like a screensaver if you will, it goes to a background image with a time and temperature logo no idea why

I have the Fire TV Cube - 4k one... I think it's the 2023 model and runs like $100 bucks (cheaper on prime events) and it's fast, responsive, and have zero issues with it.

Have then on all of my TV's talking to a central DB.

I'm not a fan of internal-TV 'smart tv' stuff because you lose it when the TV dies.. .and you can't install apps and do advanced stuff you can with the Fire TV Cube.
