I'm in the market for a new laptop. Nothing special, I'm not a gamer or anything, but I just need something to surf the web, make spreadsheets, etc.

I've heard good things about about discountelectronics.com and want to know if anyone can recommend them or give me a reason to stay away. I'm just not looking to break the bank unless I have to.

Looks like a pretty standard seller of off lease business computers. They're usually a good deal and tend to have lots of life left in them. I can't comment on this website specifically.

You can find lots of stuff like this on Ebay too, so it might be a good idea to check there to see how the prices compare. I've bought a bunch of computers like this off of ebay and if you stick with sellers with good ratings, you're fine.

When looking at various models, I would recommend getting in the 17" range for screen size.

I've gotten good stuff from there. If you're local to Austin area it probably gives some peace of mind as far as warranty support. I've had great success with Backmarket.com too. Had a laptop just stop connecting to wifi and after some troubleshooting via email got a refund on it. I'd had it for almost a year. Turned around and bought a replacement from them and haven't had any issues.

I've had great luck with them. Things worked and they do stand behind their warranties.

The only problem I have had with them is that the current reincarnation of thier web page doesn't play well with Linux.
