How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm looking to purchase a portable monitor for my laptop when I travel for business. Does anyone have a good recommendation? I found this on Amazon (LINK), and it seems like a good price to test this technology out.

AOC I1659FWUX 15.6" USB-powered portable monitor, Full HD 1920x1080 IPS, Built-in Stand, VESA.

I've used this one at work and it has done good service. Doesn't look as slick as yours but mine is 5 years old and still going.

I got this one a few months ago for $30 (pricing mistake by the seller). I assume all these cheapo 15.6 portable monitors are pretty much the same. It's fine. Color is not great, but if you're not doing photo editing or something like that it probably won't matter.

Does your laptop have a USB-C port that'll be able to send power and video? If not, you'll have to use a separate power supply for the monitor, which is annoying.

It says in the description that the monitor will only run at 30% brightness on USB-C power. My monitor is surprisingly pretty bright, so that might not be an issue.

Something to keep in mind is that if you hook up a 1080p display to a newer hi dpi laptop screen it's going to look pretty awful in comparison.

I do design work and wanted a screen for times when I'm relegated to the kitchen table (we have one office with two remote workers at home) and picked up this one last summer, looks like there's a newer 2023 version now.

It's a good bit more expensive than some other options (around $350 on Amazon, haven't shopped around) so that may or may not fit your budget, but it's a far higher quality display (2560 x 1600) depending on what you want. Personally I place a high priority on eye strain but to each their own.

Thanks for the recommendations. I don't need anything fancy since I don't do any graphic design work. I'll primarily use it as a second monitor so I can see two apps at the same time.

It seems like the price of these have come down quite a bit. I'm thinking of going with something like this next, as traveling is always such a pain when I really want to be productive.

I have a coworker who has a similar setup, and she says the one she has works great but is very fragile.

Yeah, I'd be kinda worried those might just snap off. You're also locked into that angle and location, wouldn't be my ideal setup.

They rotate, so you can change the angle. I'm not sure what other location/setup I would want with 3 monitors while traveling. Usually I have my laptop to the side, with my bigger main monitors to the center, but in this setup, I think it would be fine.

I have the Asus model and been happy with it. But yes, USB-C is a must so you don't have to carry another power supply. I had an older AOC but it was bulky. It has been 9 or so years though so they might be better now.

I purchased this one during Amazon Prime Days and it has been excellent! It matches the resolution and size of my laptop. I power it from the USB-C port from the dongle off my MS Surface laptop. I don't use a power brick or wall wart but I could.

I paid $130 for it.

I have used it from my phone for kicks, but not that useful to me--kinda wonky, but that is android for you.

Have to play with resolutions for a little bit the first time on my Win 10 Surface, and sometimes I have to unplug and replug the HDMI cable, but then it detects the resolution and works like a champ.
