We're putting in a new outdoor fireplace with TV above, and I assumed I could use an Apple TV device with WiFi behind the TV as my source source. However Apple doesn't recommend it for outdoor use. I don't have a good remote location for it with an HDMI extender, so I'm wondering what other folks in a similar situation have done? Thanks.

Depends on how much you'd be bothered if it went bust in 4 years. They make external enclosures to help protect equipment. You could also do a Roku stick. What outdoor tv you using? Many should have built in App support.

I have an old Roku ultra on my patio TV and it's been going strong for almost 5 years now. As long as it isn't getting directly rained on, you should get enough out of whatever you put out there to not worry about it too much.

As long as you have it protected from rain, it will be fine. Maybe add a zip lock bag 'enclosure' to help protect it a bit more.

It won't last anywhere near as long as one would in a room temperature and humidity controlled environment but will probably last until you're ready to replace it.

Or just buy a Roku TV for $200 and replace every 4 years

A roku or fire stick will be fine

We use a fire stick for ours. Cheap enough to replace if it does go out, but it's still running strong after a few years
