I have a closed ear gaming headset I use when my kids are asleep, but I have learned to talk in a normal voice because people can hear me, but when my son uses them to play Fortnite with his friends, he basically screaming and you can hear it all over the house because he is not aware of how loud he is talking.

Is there a recommended gaming PC headset that has some sort of open air ear cans where he can hear how loud he is talking?

I know I can turn on "listen to his device" in Windows settings so he can hear his voice back in the headset, but it seems to confuse him because it's delayed by half a second or more. Are there any options for a headset that has lag-free playback into the headset so he can hear himself talk, simulating what it would be like without headphones on?

I believe the term is open back headset, they allow you to hear everything around you.

If your kid is like mine, it won't matter.

Sennheiser PC 38x or PC37x (the previous gen) to save a few bucks

This. Plenty of cheap options to try out on Amazon for him. Open back / open ear headset

Whenever I search "Open back headphones" on amazon and then restrict it to <50 bucks, when I click on any of the options they say they are over-ear and not open back... Looks like to get open back you need to spend at least 80-100 bucks.

Id rather just punish him by turning his game off for the day after 3 warnings until he figures out he shouldn't yell.

The pair that he let the dog chew up by leaving on his PC tower and not hanging them on his monitor cost me $180, so Im not about to spend that much.

I am thinking shock collar, that responds to a certain decibel level.

Open back is a style of headset that allows ambient noise in. The better option would be a headset that has an adjustable sidetone (piping microphone directly into speakers).

I would go with the one ear headset. That or restrict the kid to not playing when being too loud.
