Can anyone recommend a good gaming PC (just the computer) for 1k or less? Thanks in advance.

What games? This will change your specs a bunch.

Can you build it from scratch or do you require a prebuilt?

Would prefer pre built. Honestly I got hooked on War Thunder, so will play that a lot which I know isn't super graphic intensive. Also plan on getting Flight Simulator and also play world of Warships (the wwII naval simulator)

This will go well above what you need right now and last years into the future and is from a known brand with great reviews. It also looks pretty good to boot. Its also prime shipping and you can get 5% CB if you have the Amazon card. I prefer windows 10 as well to the crappy 11 and this still comes with 10. You can always upgrade that to 11 yourself for free if you prefer it.

Newegg has the same if for some reason you want to use them.

That's not a bad lower-end build. I could build it for about $840, but then would need to add an OS. I think you can get legitimate Windows 10 keys for $30, so let's call it $870 to build yourself.

And I'm a big advocate for building yourself if you have the inclination, but $1000 isn't too bad for someone to assemble it and warranty it for a bit.

Not 100% but close. Missing some argb on things like ram in the part picker. May not make a difference to op though. Also missing your argb cpu cooler and the argb case fans. Plus your os license. You could also factor in the warranty if you hard to buy a 3rd party one to replace the prebuilts one.

Do you live near a microcenter (DFW or Houston). Their house brand "Cyberpower" usually are pretty good value and use COTS parts so they can be upgraded easily since they don't use any proprietary parts.

Costco has some home brand ones too on that note if you are a member at the 1k mark. Free extra year warranty with them.

Similar to OP, I'm looking for a gaming PC at the same price point for my sons for Christmas. All they play right now is Fortnite and Minecraft but I'm sure they'll get into new stuff as they get older.

Was looking at this one from Micro Center. Wondering if was a decent deal: https://www.microcenter.com/product/663687/powerspec-g368-gaming-pc

Better cpu/gfx but slower ram.

Costco deal if you have it and a membership (5% fee if not a member but cheaper to get first year membership deal than to pay this). This is better specs then all so far for same price. Extra year warranty and cyberpower is a known brand.

That's not a bad deal. I still have my old setup I built in 2017. 1070 graphics card and an i5-7600k processor in it. Thinking this could be the next step.

The one i posted above is better specs for same price.

No it doesn't... 3060 ti is over 25% better than a 3060 in most games and the 12600kf generally performs 10% better than a 5600x. The microcenter one is a way better deal

I missed the TI part, it is a better card. The CPU being 10% higher does perfom better overall. But the ram is drastically slower at 3200 vs 3600, which is the overall sweet spot for ram in this generation.

Either way, both are far worse than costco.

Alot of people realllllly don't like the 4060 btw. If you can get the 3060ti it may be a better deal than the 4060.

Its on par with a 3070 in performance and has the newer DLSS 3 (And AV1 encoding but i doubt op cares on that), which is very nice and does work on Microsoft Flight Simulator. The costco pc also has 32gb of DDR5 ram, double the HDD at 2TB nvme gen 4 (I would assume its a gen 3 in the others at 1tb) and comes with a few free peripherals.

This is the label on the power supply and Speccy info on the Costco $999 CyberPowerPC gaming PC I bought that was delivered today. These aren't listed in the specs so I guess there's no guarantee you'll get these parts.

Power Supply: Thermaltake 600W Gold 80+ (nice that they used a Gold)

Motherboard: ASRock Model B760M-C Chipset Vendor Intel Chipset Model ID4648

Hard drives ADATA LEGEND 800 GOLD (SSD) Interface Unknown Capacity 1863 GB Real size 2,000,398,934,016 bytes (2TB is 2TB I guess?)

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Model GeForce RTX 4060 Device ID 10DE-2882
Revision A2 Subvendor Gigabyte (1458) Current Performance Level Level 0 Bus Interface PCI Express x8 Temperature 39 C Driver version 31.0.15.3758 BIOS Version 95.07.31.00.b8 Physical Memory 4091 MB Virtual Memory 4092 MB

Box was dinged up but everything was working on arrival. Small piece of broken black plastic loose inside the case, not sure where it came from but it didn't cause a problem. Power cord ground prong bent badly, then broke off when trying to bend it back to normal. Used the old power cord, no problem.

Seems like a pretty good deal.
-----------------
ETA the RAM info, the 32GB came as two sticks of this:

Ram Type DDR5
Maximum Clock Speed (MHz) 2400 (JEDEC)
Maximum Transfer Speed (MHz) DDR5-4800
Maximum Bandwidth (MB/s) PC5-19200
Memory Capacity (MB) 16384
Jedec Manufacture Name Team Group Inc.
