Time to replace my mom's 2005 50" plasma.

Any educated guesses on whether the existing bracket will work with a new model that is 50 - 60?

I plan to buy the TV on my way to her house and ideally will be able to replace in 1 trip. I can do i but I'd prefer to not have to replace the existing mount.

Bracket should be interchangeable. Biggest issue will be mounting screws and if you have the right sizes or not.

I'd buy a cheap mount of Amazon so I could harvest bolts from it if I needed it for the exchange or return it if I didn't

Or just see what you need and go to the hardware store to buy some bolts for like $3. Screws for a new 50-60" TV will most likely be M8's. Just need to get the correct length.

I'll bring my unused bolts from kits I've installed at my house. Mom lives in a small town with no h/w store. Worse case I'll set it on the stand underneath where the current tv is mounted if I don't have the right size.

If the tv has a stand, most of the time, those same bolts can be used for the Vesa mounting on larger tvs.

You can also grab a kit like this in hopes one set works.

Should work fine. TV use a standard mount called VESA. It hasn't significantly changed in decades.

Plus side, a new LED/LCD TV will be significantly lighter than the plasma. You might be able to get away with buying a smaller flush type mount

I've had really good success with the "Mounting Dream TV" brand found on Amazon. I've purchased about a half dozen and they are always nails. Inexpensive and work perfectly.

Check to see where on the TV the current one attaches compared to the new one. Some attach lower or higher on the back of the TV. Hardware wise you should be fine otherwise, as others have said.

Sorry, but if it is 2005 then I reminded of this.

Walmart actually sells a small box that has all kinds of screws and such for tv mounts. I bought one when I moved, and it turned out to be useful.
