This looks almost indistinguishable from reality. Computer requirements are about to start blowing up hugely.

Games are going to require 20+ gb vram soon and 32-64 gb ddr5 ram and top leve cpus.

Between games and AI computer requirements for everything are about to explode. There is no way this game will play in less than 16 gb vram.

Yeah... that's definitely not gameplay footage.

That is insane...

Who even has the rig to run that game?

Gonna buck the trend and say that not only doesn't look amazing, it really doesn't look good. It has realism to it, but recognizably fake. I really hope this isn't where video games are headed, because even if it does bridge the gap into indistinguishable from a video I think it will still look bad. Kind of like how the soap opera effect makes TVs look more real, but way way worse.

So what I'm hearing is that it probably won't run on my 3rd gen i5

As someone who has worked on gameplay demos that were lauded for their graphics and ended up not being representative of the final product, I'll definitely say beware on something like this. It looks great in the video, yes, but a) that's going to be an absolutely massive undertaking to make it look good everywhere, b) what's shown may very well get downscaled when a tech artist gets their hands on it to make it run, and c) you're going to need a lot of computing power to run that.

If they can pull it off in a way that's accessible to a decent amount of people, then they'll have done something very impressive, but it's going to be a long, uphill climb to do so.

Even if it was real gameplay, "photorealistic" is not the right word. They're obviously cheating it a bit by making the style being the detail that can be made out watching a replay of a recording made on a crappy wireless camera rather than say, a human eye, or what we typically would think of as "photography"

Damn! This is the year I graduated HS. Movies like Jurassic Park, Toy Story and Independence Day blew us away. But it was the promise that video game technology would "soon" catch up to these movies is the main reason why I still, as a (NOT) old mid 40s guy still play video games.

This is pretty much spot on. If I had a nickel for every game announced at E3 that looked "unbelievable", only to have it release and look noticeably different than the E3 demo, I would be retired on an island somewhere.

Even if they are able to pull off this level of visual fidelity on a large scale, you will need a beast of a machine to be able to run it at any sort of decent framerate. Unreal Engine 5 is pretty amazing, but it doesn't magically make system requirements irrelevant.

Epic Games is a great company and UE is an incredible platform.
