(cross post from HI board)

Looking for some more modern lighting. Maybe the LED strips that would fit in my setup.

In an ideal world I'd love to mount a remote under one side that can turn both on but not a requirement. I don't want to deal with anymore wifi enabled devices, etc.

Currently we have 2 different walls with outlets under the cabinets. Opposite sides of the room. There are old school wire and bulbs (that are expensive and burn out quickly) I'm looking to upgrade.

Side A has bulbs on each side of the range with the wire running from the outlet on right, up through the cabinet to the section in the left.

Side B simply comes up from the outlet and has a light on the left side and a wire mounted under the cabinet to a bulb on the right side.

If you want to stick with wires, these are a good buy. I redid my entire kitchen with these on the 3K level. Long story but had to change kelvin color to 5K so replaced them all. Had 10 of them total and all have worked flawlessly.

I have mine tied to a Kasa (TP-Link) smart switch that can be turned on/off with Alexa. You can put these in groups and turn them on/off in unison. I've been using Kasa switches for about 8 years now and they are almost perfect. Very rarely do I have issues with them. Maybe 2 times in the 8 years and I have over 30 in my home.

You could also go with a LED strip with a remote but then you'd have to always know where that is which is inconvenient IMO. They sell these on Amazon and all are pretty equivalent. They have a small form factor (just the strip of LEDs).

Depending on the route you take, you might also want to run the electrical up into the attic and tie them together in a box. This would allow you to move to a 3-way switch that can control the whole system from either side of the kitchen (either switch) or tie the two LED strips together to control them with one remote.

Feel free to ask me any questions and I can try to help however I can.

Thanks! Running a wire through the attic actually sounds like a fantastic idea. We almost always turn both on at the same time so a one switch to turn them all on concept is very appealing.

I would sync them all up to my Google home setup but my wife hates "smart stuff" and wants a physical button lol. I'm a nerd so I've tried but I won't win this battle.

You start off with "if you want to stick with wires...". What if I don't? If there another option to have things under there be batter powered?

For the light switches, I'd do this. They make 2-way but if you are tying them together, you will need 3-way which is what these are. They give you a physical button but are also smart to work with your Google Home.

If you want to go wireless, you can but remember you will either have to charge frequently or replace batteries which would be a hassle. I'd recommend tapping into your electricity to simplify it. Here are a few examples of battery powered or chargeable. You can search on Amazon and get a ton of options if you want to go this route.

The system is expensive, but I would strongly recommend Lutron Caseta products for this application. They are pretty much foolproof once set up, and also can be paired with their Pico remotes which allow for traditional switching.

Thanks!

So with that switch your recommendation is to add this next to the other light switches in our kitchen and run power to behind the cabinets from there, allowing me to operate them from the switch?

Essentially would need this https://a.co/d/dhwPjMy

And couple of these? https://a.co/d/7OGXcGa

I don't think that would work. That LED strip plugs into a receptacle. You want them to be hardwired if you are going to tie them into a switch.

I personally don't think the Lutron switches are necessary, IMO. It is a personal preference thing. Either set of switches (TP-Link or Lutron) would work.

Right but that kit has 2 receptacles that you can plug the strip lighting into controlled by the Pico remote. I though that's what hijakeroo1231was getting at with his recommendation

This solution doesn't hardwire like your suggestion but I did ask you a question above about yours

Sorry. Completely missed your question above.

Yes, I was recommending you install switches to push to turn on/off your lights. This would require more effort but eliminate the wires under the cabinet and look like it was built into the home as opposed to an after thought.

If you are ok with the wires being visible and utilizing those outlets, then the Lutron setup should work. I didn't see the outlets on the sides when I reviewed it.

No worries!

I actually have an electrician coming by soon to look at another issue. I may just have him give me a bid on that setup because you're right, it would look much cleaner without the wires visible
