Hey nerds, looking to invest in a new set for our upstairs loft. Hoping to turn this area into the primary movie/gaming area, currently have an AppleTV and PS5 hooked up to a 55" Sony 900F hooked up to a Sonos soundbar that I've been pretty happy with (moving that to a different room).

OLED seems like it's probably the way to go and budget is fairly flexible (i.e. you can probably talk me into something expensive with a good reason) topping out around 1500-1700 for a 65". Right now LG OLEDs seem to the best on the market, but the C2 seems pricey when I could get an older C1 for several hundred cheaper or even one of other more budget models.

Fire away.

QD-OLED is the hot new thing. S95B (2022) or S95C (2023) for samsung models or the A95K for Sony. Sony has better specs but costs a little more. I love my S95B though. I dont miss dolby vision but if that matters to you, go the sony route as samsung will never enable DV on their models.

LG G3 is about to launch and has, apparently, equal brightness now vs S95B/C.

I've known a few people, including myself, that have had Samsung TVs fail within 3-4 years.

I expect G3 pricing to be through the roof though and if they are still using white for brightness instead of blue, you will still face a greater risk of burn in for reaching those nits levels.

The S95B and A95K should be quite a bit cheaper i would think.

Here. There's a problem with a couple of lenses on LED backlight strips, but since it's a frameless TV the actual panel is bonded on 3 sides. There's no way I'll be able to remove it to gain access to the replace the defective strips.

Ive had all the brands Sony Bravia, Sammys, LG. They are all hit or miss. Both Sony Bravias I have have issues with ARC handshakes so I have to reconnect my Sonos beam every other day. the Sammy is good but its a brand new frame... the LG is the best out of all of them

The G2/3 lol amazing but are a good bit out of my range. Any idea where the A95K might come in? I've had good luck with Sonys.

Not too sure really. I went with S95B and got my 65" for 1600 after tax last year which was a hell of a good deal, so i never shopped the A95K much.

65" A95K is around $2,600 (down from $3,200 due to the new model coming)

If you don't mind slightly worse gradients and only 2 HDMI ports, the LG B2 is super affordable compared to their newer models. It priced around where an LED or LCD tv is now, but still gives you 120 Hz like the C2

So I was actually thinking about doing exactly this, but at 65" prices it's only ilke $100 difference (1599 vs 1699 for the C2).

After some discussion we're looking at making the upstairs loft more of a playroom that would also house my PS5 and probably a Switch when our kids are a bit older, so as that tv now likely won't be the primary movie tv I'm looking at one of two options.

Option A: Bring the 55" Sony down to the bedroom and get a 65" Vizio OLED for upstairs (currently on a great deal at Walmart).

Option B: Leave the Sony upstairs and get a 55" C2 to install in the bedroom.

Tbh, once you go oled and get used to its vibrancy and blacks, youll want one in every room lol. Led tvs are just subpar at that point.

That vizio has great reviews btw.

I was reading that exact review about 20 minutes ago, several other good ones too. Might be a good place to start for a set where performance isn't super critical, then I can upgrade some of the others over time.

Appreciate the help.

Heres a decent deal on a 55" C2. This model has fantastic reviews. Direct from LG Auth retailer BuyDig. Use code DIRECTSAVINGS to lower price.

Man that is a good deal.

What's the general consensus on good 65" vs really good 55"? There's definitely room on this wall for something a little bigger (my pitch for a 75" got vetoed).

55" is small compared to 65" once you get used to it.
FatZilla

It really depends on what you will mount or place it on. Most bedrooms, especially a master, a 65 will fit and be perfect for the room when you take viewing distance into play. My 65 oled in the master is about 15'-20' away from normal head placement when resting in bed. Its wall mounted.

On the other hand, i got my mother a 48" oled (LG OLED48A1PUA) for her house's master because the dresser she bought wasn't wide enough for a 65 and she didn't want a wall mount. Its a little smaller but to her, its perfect as she watches most tv on her 65 oled in the living room. Plus the 48" was like $400 on a daily deal from buydig a while back. That deal sold out very quickly lol.

This is kind of what I was thinking. We have a 65" Frame in the living room but the ceilings are super tall so it's hard to get a sense of size.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards getting the cheaper 65" OLED for upstairs and putting the 55" Sony in the bedroom for now.

Currently have a 50" 720p Panasonic plasma in the bedroom that's I imagine may kick the bucket any day now, so any 4k will be a big upgrade.

And adamsbq, I'm in Austin but appreciate the offer.

I upgraded from a 65" Sony 900F in 2022 to a 65" Samsung S95B and I couldn't be more pleased with the purchase. The QLED lighting tech coupled with the OLED panel was (for me) like watching TV for the first time again. Plus, the price isn't too far off your range, you may even be able to get the 2022 model for cheaper now. Samsung OS could use some work but I just use my PS5 or Google TV 99% of the time.

Plus a nice feature of the S95B, if you like to stream music or other audio, it has a built in screen off mode! My LG never had that.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Appreciate all the input. For now going to go with the 65" Vizio OLED for upstairs and bring the 900F into the bedroom, then will look to upgrade the 900F with a C2 or S95B (or similar) when budget allows.

Will report back on the Vizio, will be a few weeks for delivery plus install.

Wanted to bump this thread just to bring some info. I had posted a few weeks ago about the LG C2 vs B2, and I've still been researching and waiting on new models to drop to compare.

Samsung S95B 65" just dropped in price to 1799

Sony A95K 65" recently dropped down to 2599, but I expect it to drop a bit further once the A95L comes out or just before

S95C just came out and the LG C3 just came out. Still waiting on the 65" models as both released the 77". Not sure if any of them are truly worth it over the previous year model, but with Sony and Samsung, they are supposedly much brighter.

I would say to steer clear of Samsung TVs.

Agreed entirely!

Of course, we'll see how long my CX lasts; perhaps that opinion could change again.

Maybe it's just the new ones, but my 9 year old Samsung plasma is still rolling along. I'm partial to Sony these days though with how great the picture is on my x90k

Other than Dolby Vision support, why the Samsung hate?

I've had my 65" plasma forever and it's made every 4k local dimming hdr lcd I've brought home since for a secondary tv look like crap.

I'll eventually have to replace it with an OLED, but it still looks great.
