How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have an Aladdin Genie garage door opener, installed by yours truly about 18 months ago. Has always worked great. A couple of weeks ago it was no longer connecting to the internet. Talked to the company, they sent me a new wifi board for free. Installed this week, and per the app it's able to connect to wifi but not to the cloud...thus unable to operate it from my phone. Troubleshooting it multiple different ways, they concluded that there must be some issue with my router. I am inclined to believe them because during this process my Ecobee starting acting up as well (that seems to have recovered by itself).

I have a Nighthawk R7000 router, and I use an EAX20 extender. When I log into the nighthawk app, I search for a firmware update and it keeps giving me an error message. With some googling I think I do not have the latest firmware...I don't know if that is related to my garage door issue or not.

Any ideas here for what I can do?

I'm assuming you've reset your router & extender?

Backup router settings to a local file and do a factory reset. Try updating it then and after that, restore your settings.

Have you updated your DNS recently or started using a pihole or similar?

I've not yet done a factory reset of the router.

DNS? Pihole? Not sure what these words mean...

Try connecting to the 2.4Ghz network (not 5Ghz)

I did that, and it worked for a few hours. Next day I come out and it's not working again. Again tried to make sure I was connecting to the 2.4 and this time it didn't make a difference

Likely the router, I got rid of my r7000 for a few reasons. Is it setup to share as two separate bands or a single.

You may need to set the 2.4ghz speeds down to 802.11B or G compatibility. I keep a B access point going for IOT devices that struggle staying connected to a more modern network

In addition to the 2.4ghz assignment, you should also try disabling the 20/40mhz coexistence. I did this when my August locks kept going offline and it resolved the issue.

To disable 20/40 MHz coexistence on your NETGEAR router:
Launch a web browser from a device that is connected to your router's network.
Enter www.routerlogin.net.
A login window displays.
Enter your user name and password.
The user name is admin. The password is the one that you specified the first time that you logged in. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
The BASIC Home page or Dashboard displays.
Select ADVANCED> Advanced Setup> Wireless Settings.
For Nighthawk Pro Gaming routers, select Settings > Wireless Setup.
Clear the Enable 20/40 MHz Coexistence check box.
Click or tap Apply.
20/40 MHz coexistence is disabled.
Refresh
