Which 65" OLED? Samsung v LG

I'm looking to replace a 9 year old 55" Samsung in my living room with a 65", given the rebates available right now. The primary models I'm considering are a Samsung S95B and LG G2. I've never had an OLED panel; the salesman recommended the Samsung since it is going in a living room with windows for the extra brightness. Any recommendations between the 2 models?

Off on a tangent… sound bars (not for my main living room, but for a bedroom). What is the consensus on the Sonos Arc vs Klipsch Cinema 800 or 1200?

Unless something has changed in the last year or so, LG is pretty consistently the top rated oled. I have one and love it.

If your budget allows, go for QD-OLED

I was told that LG has the patent on OLED technology and that other brands selling an OLED TV purchased the screens from LG and marked them up.

No Idea as to veracity of that though.

I bought an LG G1 earlier this year and love it.

QD-OLED has changed things a bit. The Sony and Samsungs are performing really well.

I have the Samsung S95B and the brightness and color performance are fantastic in a bright living room.

Just get an Apple TV or something to go with it because the Samsung interface stinks.

This.

I own multiple LG OLEDs, with a GX and a C1 being the most recent models, and would buy a QD-OLED like the Samsung S95B if I was in the market for a new TV today. Don't get me wrong, the LG OLEDs (as well as the Sony TVs using LG OLED panels) are fantastic TVs, but lose out in a little in color and a LOT in brightness to QD-OLED tech at the moment. The only real knock I have against the Samsung is that Samsung still refuses to support Dolby Vision.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the QD-OLED panels should be much less susceptible to screen burn due to the entire panel using the much longer lived blue OLED pixels as their backlight (the QD layer is what gives you the colors). So, while burn in risk is much lower with modern OLED panels, it should be even less likely with QD-OLED.

Thanks for the insight. I know LG has been the standard by which all other OLEDs are judged, but it seems like Samsung has created a great product with the S95B series that would, in fact, be better suited to a well-lit room. I'm assuming I wouldn't be missing out too much by not having Dolby Vision? Also, for what its worth, I won't be using the internal TV apps, I'll be using a streaming box (AppleTV) instead.

This is not the case with Samsung QD-OLED specifically.

Sony OLED televisions do use LG panels though.

Interesting. Especially considering whenever Ive shopped TVs the last few years Sony's are exbortiantly expensive. Like 50% or more higher.

I've got a Sony OLED from 2 or 3 years ago and still love it. Was planning to get an LG C-something at the next discount, but jumped on a best buy sale that made it hundreds cheaper than the lowest LG price in the previous 12 months. In-laws have a couple LG's and I've used them enough to know I made the right choice. The Sony OS is pure android/google and not the limited LG version that doesn't support all apps, especially ESPN! The Sony has been great.

My 2016 LG OLED is still going strong to this day. My next purchase will be the S95B or similar qd-oled whenever this one kicks the bucket.

For anyone who gets an LG. Buy a service remote off Amazon or ebay for it. LG loves to hide key settings away in that menu.

The choice is between Sony and LG, not Samsung and LG. Mostly based on what OS you want and how much you care about the audio from the TV only.

I love my Samsung QN90B. It performs really well in bright light, which was ultimately what sold it for me.

I never use the apps on the TV. I watch high bitrate movies and they can rarely handle it (the processors are usually garbage). I have an Nvidia Shield Pro on my main tv.

Above are a couple of good resources.

Cliff notes, Sony's QD-OLED (same panel as the Samsung) is the best but has a Sony tax. If it's my money I go S95B and then G2.

Adding my post from Entertainment board thread here as another data point. I've got the Samsung S95B and love it ($1399 pre-tax with my wife's educator discount). Huge upgrade over my last LED (non-OLED) LG. Found some great calibration settings on the AVS Forum. Went with it over the LG C2 because of the RTINGS posts. Don't miss Dolby Vision at all, HDR content looks amazing.

Can't speak on any other brand but I bought an LG CX OLED in May of 2021 and couldn't be happier. Picture quality is fantastic and it has every feature necessary to take advantage of the current generation of gaming consoles.

OS/Interface isn't a consideration since I run Apple TVs. Sound runs through a 5.1 receiver setup. I appreciate all the input. I'm thinking the S95B is the right choice for my situation now.
