Building a gaming rig pretty much exclusively for Flight Sim...who the heck is getting any graphics cards? Been looking for weeks and the only ones I can find are 3090s but I'm not paying $2K for that. Any tricks to scoring a 3080 or Radeon 6800?

You can sign up for notifications for EVGA cards on their website and you'll be added to a queue. They'll email you when your number is up and you have eight hours to buy the card. That's how I got my 3090.

I have a backorder in for a 3070 from these guys. the 3080's are not taking orders thought it looks like.

This one specifically as its a nice overclocked model.

Although I'm gaming in 1440p/165hrz this card can easily handle 4k high/ultra for modern titles. Especially using DLSS and your can OC the card higher too if you want. Seen lots of ppl with this card over 2k in speed when its base OC is in the 1800s

I was searching for a 2060 so I could play Cyberpunk, I eventually gave up and just bought a laptop with one in it.

Yeah, prebuilts, either laptop or desktop, might be the best bet for most people to easily get a new GPU.

The EVGA signup is pretty painless but who knows how long it will take you now.

Best buy stock drops are fairly reliable in that the website works well enough to make it possible to buy items when a drop happens. The problem is knowing when the stock drop will occur and being available in that 15-30 minute window. That's how I and several of my friends got our cards.

People in the r/buyapcsales discord seemed to be knowledgeable about that sort of thing: https://discord.gg/MY2sqVJVRd

I was hanging around in there for awhile just getting general advice when I saw people talking about Best Buy so you could just go in there and ask. At the time, Best Buy was dropping every other Tuesday, however I'm pretty sure they had a big drop yesterday so I have no idea what the schedule is like now.

This is the Stock Drops discord that's useful for setting up all sorts of notifications about different components and other things: https://discord.gg/nREGuS49cn

I'm not saying this is the only cause, but it's amazing how the dominos fall when Intel screwed up 10nm and 7nm. You basically went from being able to supply millions of chips a year on the advanced node to maybe 10-20% of that at best for multiple years on end.

Apple eventually started using TSMC in addition to all sorts of other companies. Even Intel is needing to use TSMC. The world had X capacity and one companies blunder has basically chopped that capacity by a significant percentage.

This is why you are seeing TSMC and Samsung starting to develop more fabs in the face of intel. The world could gobble up more graphics cards, more "chips" for automotive etc, but not enough fab supply.

I have a few backorders with my distributor, and the next available 3080 is showing an ETA of 1/26. If that actually comes in, I'll post in classifieds again for retail price plus any fees I have to pay. Or you can get it below retail price with a custom built system: www.arculum.com

Thanks, I did that for a number of their cards. How long was your wait?

I just looked and I signed up for notifications on the 3090 FTW3 on 9/24/2020 at 9:16 AM PT. That's the day the website for them went up a few hours after it went live and before they announced the queue system using the notification system, so I just got lucky that I had signed up that early. I think I was actually in the first few hundred on the list based on the unofficial spreadsheet they were using to track progress on the EVGA forums.

I got the email to order the card on 10/20/2020, so a little less than a month. While they have ramped up productions some, they line is now also much longer, though I haven't look at the current state of things recently.

People who signed up in November haven't gotten notified yet. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Looks like that one has now been pushed to 5/31... My next soonest ETAs are showing 1/29 and 2/09.

Ive set up a couple different stock alerts to try and snag a 3060 ti. Hoping I wont have to wait months for it.

Are you taking reservations for the 3060 TIs or is it first come first serve?
jbryan10
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Sure, I can do some sort of reservation. Send me an email at jason@arculum.com and I'll let you know when it comes in, but I won't delay too long before putting it up for sale.

First, it was good bourbon. Then it was toilet paper. Then it was ammo.

And now it's graphics cards.

These are basically the four essential food groups for surviving in a quarantined COVID world. Pretty much watching the unraveling of society!

I got really lucky by buying a bunch of computer stuff right at the beginning of quarantine, middle of the spring before it really hit everyone that they were going to be shut down for months.

Bought 2 PCs off of eBay to use as "work from home" computers. Paid $80 for one and $70 for the other. They have been legitimately doubled in price since last summer and are just now starting to show signs of leveling off and coming down in price.

Any chance you're going to get any of the RTX 3060's at release? Since Nvidia isn't doing a FE, rumors are they will be tough to get at the $329 price, but this is probably the card I'm going to land on.
jbryan10
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Just to provide an update to everyone, my upcoming ETAs are/have been shifted to:

    RTX 3060 Ti
  • (1) Gigabyte - 02/18

    RTX 3070
  • (3) Gigabyte - 02/03
  • (1) ASUS - 02/08

    RTX 3080
  • (1) EVGA - 02/24
  • (1) Gigabyte - 03/02
  • (1) EVGA - 03/08

    RTX 3090
  • (1) Gigabyte - 02/04
  • (1) ASUS - 02/08

I still have several other backorders currently through May, and some of these continue to slide as shipments to my distributor are shorted. Some of these have even been on backorder since Nov 01 last year. I do have a few people on my "waiting list", but keep in mind all of these dates are subject to (and likely to) change.

Regarding the 3060s (non-Ti), I'll have to wait until my distributor adds listings for them which likely won't be until release day.

Just curious, what kind of parts did you get for $70 and $80? I built an overclockable ivy bridge i5 and besides the case and power supply the total was about $300.

I bought a Lenovo M93z all in one for $80. Swapped in an SSD and it was good to go. This one was a steal because of the built in WiFi and webcam.

The second one was a Lenovo M73 USFF, it was $70. Just had to swap in an SSD that I also had laying around and used it on an old monitor.

Luckily they all had windows keys still attached to them and I've got mice and keyboards everywhere so the only cost I was out was for the machines themselves.

You are offering these cards for sale by themselves near retail? If so, I'd definitely be interested in one of the 3070s if available

At retail + any fees I'll have to pay for shipping/handling and payment processing. I've got you both down, but please also send me an email at jason@arculum.com.

I'm still waiting on confirmation from my distributor for the cards due in today, but I don't have high hopes.

I did however want to mentioned that I have an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X available (in hand) at retail price as well.

UPDATE: I DO have some cards coming. Following-up with those on the wait list now.
jbryan10

All three are currently available. If you're interested, email: jason@arculum.com

Any 5900x's? I can't bring myself to buy the 5800x despite wider availability.

Negative. Unfortunately I don't have a good distributor for these yet.

ShopBLT.com seems to be having 5900x's coming in regularly. I ordered last week and should ship late this week/early next week.

Now just need to get my hands on a 6800xt and decide on MB.

Let us know how it goes. I was curious and looking up their reviews and it seems like they have a habit of taking pre-orders and then just sending delay emails.

Buzzkill. 2/8 is the current proposed date.
