I just picked up an OQ2 today. You have to have a Facebook account to use the device.

I have tried to create a new Facebook account, given that I haven't had used a Facebook account in over two years. Immediately upon putting an email, etc. and pressing the sign up button a message appeared saying my account was locked due to a violation of community guidelines. What the heck!? I used my real name and a standard email address. Nothing offensive at all.

They wanted me to upload a photo of myself, even after I confirmed my phone number, before they would unlock my new account. Curious if they are doing this to every new account given the current political situation or if I got flagged somehow.

Then I remembered I had an old Facebook account that I haven't logged into in over two years. So I decided to use that one. Oh wait. That one is locked too. For that one, they wanted me to upload my ID to verify my identity. I apparently never set up my phone number for that one. As it turns out, looking through my old emails on this Gmail account that I hardly use, they sent me a few emails over several months in 2019 saying people had tried to login to my account. I didn't know how hackers would've known that email. So I went down the rabbit hole on "have I been pwnd" and of course that email has been linked in four separate hacks including two that used unsalted passwords.

All I want to do is play freaking Beat Sabre. Now all I'm doing is figuring out what other sites I signed up with using that email address and going to change all of those passwords. Still trying to decide whether to upload my ID to Facebook or just return the damn VR.

I tried that (absent the monkey). No bueno. They are cracking down on new signups. I tried from my cell phone instead of my computer, using wireless connection instead of wifi and still flagged.

Went ahead and uploaded my ID for my "real" account that I had a few years ago. They said I could cover address, etc so I blacked out everything but my photo, name and DOB. Then again, I probably used a fake DOB when I signed up way back then so they probably still won't let me in. Turds.

I'm more concerned about my email and those passwords being out there for two years without me knowing. I have no idea if I reused those passwords on other sites. Started going back through the email account to identify sites I've been to in the past and resetting using my password manager. Really annoying.

Return it. Having to be beholden to Facebook for anything immediately means that product/service gets none of my money.

Luckily, I've had a burner Facebook account for 10 years that has existed long enough to avoid all of the other insanity.

The easiest way to do this now is: Create an account with an innocuous sounding name, use a AI generated photo, and use a new google voice account for the phone number and email.

It is back in the box for a return. I really like the idea of VR games and had a lot of fun with my PSVR before it broke.

Just create a new email and a new bogus account. You can fake it. Just make it look real. The Quest is pretty cool. It's worth setting up a fake account.

I tried to create a real account. I went through the photo verification, with a photo of me. My account is still locked.

I'm done.

I had deleted my Facebook account ages ago and had to use my wife's for my quest. Now she can't delete her account because of it. It's really stupid
