For bookshelf speakers. Denon Receiver also.

Which one and why?

I'd go with whatever your drummer friend recommended

Klipsch almost always over Bose because they sound better.

I have both, Klipsch is my preferred. I get more quality highs and vocals with the Klipsch speakers, and they can thump pretty well for their size.

Bose have more of a flat curve to their audio. Mids sound good, won't get much on the high end and the lows are OK. I always have to mess with my EQ way more with my Bose speakers to get the sound I like out of them.

Where you plug all your fancy AV crap into. I have a Denon receiver for our media room, I like it.

Neither. Aside from their noise cancelling headphones, Bose is overpriced crap. Klipsch's horn-loaded speakers are loud but too shrill. What do you want to spend?

Common refrain with Klipsch although I wonder how many people just repeat what they see on the internet (not saying you are doing that). Having listened to other speakers I can kind of get the argument. Purely personal preference though.

I own some Klipsch speakers for media room and they are badass. My Dad used to have some shelf Klipsch and they were really good as well. I just don't trust Bose aside from their headphones.

I still marvel at how well my SONOS Playbar and subwoofer sound considering it's just a sound bar, but that's another thread.

Looking to spend $500/pair max.

I have a friend I grew up with that was a drummer in a band in Houston. His band was about to sign a recording contract with a company owned by ZZ Top. He then grew up and chose marriage over years of drugs.

I trust his opinion but always open to other opinions.

At that price point I would like at:

Ascend Acoustics CMT-340
SVS Prime Bookshelf
or to save money ELAC Debuts

Honestly though, audio is subjective. The best thing you could do is get 5-6 pairs from companies with free reurn shipping and listen to them all to make your own decision.

I bought a pair of Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 speakers I don't remember, maybe 2012 and they worked like a dream... They were the best computer speakers I ever owned. My 2 year old daughter ended up using the subwoofer in the corner like a little stool and broke all of the black and red clips that hold the wiring in on the back, so it would constantly cut out when the sub was vibrating. Very annoying.

So, I saw a new pair at costco and ended up buying them because they were $149 after $50 off, I think.

Set em up, they look almost identical but...the sub is nowhere near as high quality. It's not even the same product IMO.

Not sure if Klipsch just has inferior build now that they are trying to compete at lower price points, or I actually got a low-cost Costco Special deal that they cut corners on, but I am not impressed with how the older speakers sounded compared to these.

Unfortunately, I put my pair on the curb before getting to listen to these for awhile and they were picked up before I got the remorse.

I still rock my klipsch tower speakers from middle 2000s. Those ****ers keep pumping and though they are heavy as hell, I love them so.

Klipsch
They were well established before Bose became a thing.

Friend of mine has some that are older than that. The big, classic ones like 4-5 ft tall and 2-3 feet wide and deep. They are the most ridiculous speakers I've ever heard. You can literally feel the hair on your face move when he cranks them.

This.

Also, If there is a Nebraska Furniture Mart near you, I would go to their media room and check out their speakers.

Pretty well equipped with bose, klipsch, svs and obviously some higher ends.

Klipsch speakers have historically known to be very bright, but their recent year models have done well in pulling that down (IMO). There is also a very large range of speakers ranging from stuff made over seas to the stuff assembled in Arkansas.

I would strongly consider the SVS prime bookshelf for that range.

Either way, speakers are so subjective it's best to find a place you can listen to them in person (Best Buy Magnolia, NFM, Starpower). But all that said, I wouldn't pick the Bose.

No highs or lows? Must be Bose.
