I've searched and read lots of thread on here about these. Most of them are a little aged though so just asking again. I'm leaning toward Ecobee, but interested in all opinions. What do you have? What do you like and why? What do you dislike and why?

Honestly I think they're just about the same. I have nest, it does just fine. Ultimately, how much adjustment does a thermostat really need on a daily basis? My vote would be pick whatever is going to work best in your full home setup. For me it was nest because that's the same app for my smoke detectors. One app for everything was convenient.

I've had both but prefer the Ecobee. At the time I bought one it was able to handle a standalone dehumidifier better than a Nest could but both models have changed since then.

Didn't use Nest, didn't like the E-Learning aspect of it. I prefer to control my temperature. I like being able to set a range rather than a target temp, that way I don't have to change when it's winter vs summer.

I would get an ecobee if I didn't already have a nest.

I have an ecobee and am happy with it. We have sensors in 4 rooms and they seem to do a pretty good job.

Ecobee gen 2 here. Works great. Don't have the sensors. For the life of me, I still don't understand the reasoning behind a sensor.

"Oh- it's 3 degrees cooler in the second bedroom? Ok"

I don't understand them either. But they came free with the Gen 4 that I got. So I use them. The front of our house cools off faster than the bedrooms, so it helps at night.

We've had both and prefer the Ecobee due to the remote sensors. Originally, our thermostat was upstairs and auto-away was inconsistent. Sensors are for motion and setting temperatures where the Comfort setting should take its reading from or an average between the bedrooms overnight (for example). App is great too with setting vacation mode.

Interesting critiques of the Nest, because the Nest can actually handle both of these issues of yours.

- can disable the learning aspect and make it a dummy stat
- can set an upper and lower bound temperature band

It helped me troubleshoot some ductwork issues, and if a room that runs hot/cold is occupied the system will run a bit more to compensate for that.

Also the presence detection is nice, if you want to turn off away mode during the day to save some money. Having the sensors will ensure the thermostat doesn't go into energy saving mode when you are hanging out in the bedroom or office for long periods of time.

I like the idea of sensors. I tried to get a Nest with one but had some compatibility issues. Older house and have really uneven heating/cooling. When I had infants in their room with the door closed sometimes I'd go in and be surprised at how much hotter/colder the room was. I doubt in most newer houses its as big of an issue.

Also would be nice at the old 3 story townhouse I used to live in. Thermostat was on the 2nd floor so the 3rd floor was always hot. So if I could have set it to use the temp of the 2nd floor from 8am to 7pm, then the 3rd floor sensor from 7pm to 8am that would have saved some sweaty nights.

I've got a Nest with sensors. One for the living room and one for my bedroom.

When I'm sleeping, it want the temperature in MY room to be what I set. I don't care what temperature it is in the hallway where the Nest is...

And same for the living room.
