Merge 2 MP4s into single MP4 file/movie

I used Handbrake to rip one of my old DVDs (a production/bought DVD). My plan was to make the file available to my Plex server.

But, Handbrake didn't figure out the titles properly; the movie was split into 2 separate titles, so 2 separate MP4s, each about 1 hour & 20 mins.

Looking for suggestions on how to merge the two. I tried a VLC command-line suggestion (on an iMac) that I found somewhere, but the final/output file was actually just the first of the two MP4s.

I also tried iMovie (an old version of iMovie that I had lying around) but the final file was about 4x larger than I expected and the aspect ratio was 4:3.

I've seen some pay tools that purport to do it, but I don't really care enough to pay $60 for this one movie that Handbrake doesn't handle too well.

Just wondering if anyone has a suggestion.

I used to use VirtualDub for such things. Looks like that's not an active project anymore, but you can still get it and it should do the job.

This is what I use to put videos together. FFmpeg has a Mac binary you can install.

QuickTime on Mac will do it. Open the first file, then just drag the 2nd file into it. Then export.

I gave this a shot the other day but abandoned before I even started because the output format would be .mov and I'd have to convert it to mp4. Decided to bite the bullet and try again. QuickTime seemed to be doing okay until it got close to end of the the 2-hour save/export time. Now, the time to complete is up to 1482 hours, so I suppose something has gone wrong. lol. Aborting.

Thx. I'll try this last because I don't have a Win machine handy.

This appears to have worked. Thx very much!

I did see some errors output, but I haven't notice a problem yet.

If you do get QuickTime to work, you can then transcode to mp4 with Handbrake.
